We’ll be honest – we’re not the biggest fans of the education system (we’ve all been there: deadlines, exams, group projects where only one person actually does the work 🙃)… BUT we do believe education is massively important.

That’s why we’re offering counselling sessions for higher education students at just £35 + VAT per session.

Because while lectures, assignments, and the occasional “what even is my life?” moment are all part of the journey, you don’t have to navigate it on your own. 🧭

University and college life can feel like a maze – pressure, homesickness, relationships, finances, future worries… (oh, and trying to remember if pasta counts as a food group 🍝). We’re here to support you through it all.

➡️ Affordable, professional counselling
➡️ Tailored support for your student life
➡️ Continued sessions throughout the academic year

You keep chasing the degree – we’ll help you keep your head together while you do it.

👉 Drop us a message to book your first session.

Conditions apply. Offer available for current higher education students only.

It’s Great North Run day! 😁✌️
We’re sending a massive good luck to all of our amazing team and everyone who is running today🤩 You’re all going to smash it out the park!

Never say you can’t do it - you may not have done it YET, but you’ll never know until you try. Your hopes, goals and ambitions are always undoubtedly worth the initial discomfort of trying ✌️

So I practically never use our business to reach out for sponsorship but this is such a one off that it’s almost comical

In one weeks time, myself and a few members of our amazing Lighthouse Family will be running the GNR to raise money for The Three Tumours.

That’s right me, a washed up drunken sailor who lives off a cholesterol and whiskey diet will be running 13.1 miles 😮😬🙈

As many people know, 8 years ago I lost my dad to a brain tumour and it was without doubt the worst times of my life. Not only did we loose him but we also had to see him suffer as this horrific disease slowly took him away from us.

The Three Tumours is a fantastic local frontline charity who work with people affected by brain cancer and also their families. They are there when s**t gets real and they need our support.

So please just click on the link below and donate what you can and now is your chance to see me squirm in pain and be pushed to my very limits.

Many thanks 😁✌️

I’m swapping the counselling couch for a good old-fashioned pounding… of the pavements! This year I’ve signed up to do the Great North Run for The Three Tumours — a charity painfully close to my heart

How would it feel for you to not offer your friend in crisis advice or a solution to their problems?☕️🫂

For a lot of us, it can be really challenging to not try to “help” people in a literal, practical sense.
We want to take the problem away for those we love and care for🤍

But what if the real magic and connection comes from simply being?
How comfortable are we being with others in their pain without trying to fix it? To listen and stay with someone, letting them know we’re here no matter their state, gives our loved ones the chance to feel heard and accepted💡

That sh*t is powerful...

When was the last time you answered “I’m fine” when someone asked how you are? 💡

For most of us it’s a catch all response - it saves us from having to check in with ourselves and our genuine feelings, as well as the vulnerability of opening ourselves up to others.
What would happen if next time someone asked “how are you?”, “how was that thing?” or “how’re you feeling about what happened?” if we didn’t use the F word? 🌊👥

Take a moment to reflect - do you need to be “fine”? Is the F word truly serving you? What would your response be if this word was banned? 💡

Identifying our feelings can be hard! Even as qualified, experienced counsellors, it’s something we don’t get right all the time. If it feels right for you, have a look at the feelings wheel - sometimes we just don’t have the words to describe what’s going on inside, and that’s okay! That’s where counselling can help and nurture you to understand your inner world better🌱🫂

Congratulations to everyone who has received A-level or GCSE results over the last couple of weeks! 😁✌🏻- and shout out to all who have supported you along the journey; we see you too!

If your results didn’t go to plan, take a deep breath and remember: Jeremy Clarkson got a C and two U’s and now spends his time shouting at cows for millions of pounds🤣

The point is, life isn’t linear and nothing is ever permanent - it can have a funny way of working out. The opportunity to learn and grow is so valuable, and not just exclusive to school; in fact we are always learning and evolving through our whole lives in a way that could never be measured by an exam. You’ve got time and probably a lot more going for you than you realise right now! 😁

Be kind to yourself today - you’ll have heard it before, but I will say it again, your worth is not defined by any grade ❤️
Self Care Tip… Clarkson’s Farm is one of our favourite shows to wind down with at the end of the day 🤣 give it a watch! let yourself be distracted! You need time to rest before making your next steps in your journey 🫂

Change is the only constant we can rely upon to show up time and time again in life…

Although the change might be outside of our control, we can be empowered to choose how we respond to it and adapt. Accountability and responsibility ground us in the here and now🌱

By no means is change easy, but part of accountability can be reaching out to support around you during a difficult transitional time🫂

Change challenges us, but the challenge isn’t always visible - often it looks like accepting help or trying something new to adapt and live aligned with what you want for yourself and those around you😁✌🏻

The work you do now is the gift of saving the rest of your life - through learning the kind of life you don’t want, you can build the one you do 🤍

However long your journey, you are not wasting time 🌊 You are growing, discovering, perhaps challenging and most certainly investing in the future version of yourself💡

In order to better understand what motivates us as humans, psychologist Abraham Maslow illustrated his hierarchy of needs, categorising them to demonstrate how they relate to one another 📖
The theory follows the belief that once one need is met, we look to meet the next need above it in the hierarchy…

But what do they really mean?

🎨Creativity - To feel we are doing what we are meant to be doing. To explore our lives with purpose and meaning; not bound by restrictions. This is all about what we put out into the world (create) and receive from the world in return.

👥Self-esteem - There are two parts to this. For our whole self-esteem to be fulfilled we must have both self-confidence and feel valued by others.

❤️Love and Belonging - We don’t exist in isolation; as humans we search for connection to others around us. Love and a sense of belonging is not exclusive to romantic relationships, but is also found in our friendships, workplace, shared hobbies, community around us and sometimes online too!

🔐Safety - We all have a need for safe, predictable environments. When this isn’t our experience, it’s not an abnormal reaction to feel anxiety or fear, instead it’s our brain and bodies protective response to the perceived threat.

🍞Physiological - These are the very basics that sustain our life and ability to function. We are hungry, so we need to eat. We are cold, so we need to find warmth. You get the picture. It’s hard to focus on anything else when these are not met consistently.

Do any of these stand out to you as a need you often neglect?
If you do, you’re not alone. We exist in a world flooded with fast-paced demands and distractions that take us away from the bare bones of what we truly need for ourselves everyday🧠
However, if you feel you are struggling to identify your needs, meet them or understand why you experience a resistance to looking after yourself, counselling can help.

Exploration of unmet needs, past or present, can help us to see the impact this has had on us, and move towards developing healthier ways of being, as well as connecting with ourselves🫂

You deserve to and can live in the present moment feeling whole and content. You are allowed to look after yourself truly 🤍

Vision

So who are we and what are we all about, this question is possibly the oldest philosophical question of all time. I basically formed Lighthouse Therapy Group because for a long long time i have had a real burning desire deep within myself to try and make a difference around peoples attitudes to mental health. We all at times find ourselves going through tough times and unfortunately this is all part of life and something that can’t always be avoided. The problem comes when we go through these tough times that there is nowhere really to turn. The NHS is at breaking point, systems put in place by local authorities are failing us, employers are not acknowledging their responsibilities and we are still living under a shroud of stigma and opinions that we have to brush mental health issues under the carpet. ‘NO MORE,’ you are not alone and I aim to bring people together to offer support through different methods and also address all these issues with the local council. This can’t be done though without the people of Sunderland, Washington and surrounding areas pulling together so come on-board and #letstalk.
