Today we celebrate Imbolc. It is a Celtic festival that marks the midway point between the winter solstice and the spring equinox. It is a time of anticipation for the coming spring and is associated with the goddess Brigid, a symbol of fertility, healing, and poetry. Historically, Imbolc was a time for cleansing and purification, often involving the lighting of fires or candles to signify the return of the sun and the lengthening of days. Traditionally, it was also a time to prepare the land for planting and to celebrate the first signs of new life emerging from the earth. Today, Imbolc is used as a time to reflect on personal growth and renewal, often through rituals and celebrations that honour Brigid's spirit and the promise of spring.
A lovely way to cleanse your home and space is with Palo Santo. Palo Santo is one of the most fragrant woods in the world and when lighted, the essential oils are released from the wood with a beautiful aroma. These essential oil properties can benefit you to help with stress relief, calmness, clarity and focus as well as your physical wellbeing to help reduce inflammation and pain and support respiratory health. It is also used for energy clearing and bringing good fortune.
To use your Palo Santo, a good technique is to:
* hold the wood in a flame until it catches alight
*Allow it to burn with the flame for 30-60 seconds
* Blow out the flame, the stick will smoulder and fill the air with its beautiful scent
* Place it in a fire proof holder or bowl and enjoy
It will eventually go out itself.
Take some time to cleanse your space and home as spring is on its way, with new beginnings.
Imbolc blessings to you all.
