Healthwatch Sunderland, after hearing from local carers of people with dementia, that once their loved one received their diagnosis, they felt lost and didn’t know where to turn for local support. With local partners they have produced a document,
‘Support available in Sunderland for people experiencing memory difficulties or dementia and their carers’.

This document is now available on their website.

Did you know that breast screening is the best way to detect breast cancers early, when they are more easily treatable and before any signs or symptoms appear. So even if you feel fit and healthy, it’s really important that you still attend when invited.

Having a mammogram is nothing to worry about. It’s quick and easy and only takes 10 minutes and the friendly staff are on hand if you do have any concerns. So if you’re a women aged between 50-71, look out for your invitation letter coming through the post (every 3 years) and please, don’t ignore it, it could save your life.

For more information visit https://www.gatesheadhealth.nhs.uk/services/breast-screening/

And if you’ve missed your appointment or need to change it for whatever reason, don’t worry, just contact your local screening centre to book another appointment at a date and time to suit you.

The practice has been informed we have spent over £8000 in the last 12 months on texts to patients. We are trying to reduce that figure to help in cost cutting exercises. The reminder texts to patients regarding their appointments have now been changed :-

They will only now receive 1 text – 24 hours prior to their appointment.

(If their appointment is booked on the day – they will receive a text if the time of the appointment is more than 90 minutes in advance)

We hope you understand why this is happening.

Did you know?

The NHS is struggling under ever increasing costs. One of these costs which continues to escalate is that of SMS messaging. We use these important messages to contact you about appointments, results and for many other reasons. However, every text message we send comes at a cost!
---
But there is an alternative! By clicking on this link and downloading the NHS app, this allows us to contact you via the app instead which is FREE:
https://www.nhs.uk/nhs-app/
----
If you already have the app, please ensure you turn on notifications as otherwise the messages will automatically revert back to SMS which will cost the NHS money.
---
This is just one simple step you can take towards supporting your NHS and Millfield Medical Group
---
Thank you for your support.

Download the NHS App, or open the NHS website in a web browser, to set up and log in to your NHS account. Owned and run by the NHS, your NHS account is a simple and secure way to access a range of NHS services online.
