Sunderland’s First Trafalgar Day Commemoration at Historic Trafalgar Square

On Tuesday 21 October, Navy veterans from the Royal Naval Association on Roker Avenue hosted Sunderland’s first-ever Trafalgar Day event at the city’s own Trafalgar Square, a site that predates London’s by four years.

The evening honoured the 66 men from Sunderland who fought in the Battle of Trafalgar on 21 October, 1805.

A proud moment of remembrance and local heritage. ⚓

Know someone over 66? You could help them claim extra support!

Lots of residents are missing out on Pension Credit – a benefit that could boost their income by up to £3,900 a year and unlock extra help with everyday costs.

If you support, care for, or simply know someone over State Pension age, especially if they’re on a low income, you can make a real difference by encouraging them to check if they qualify.

Even a quick conversation could help them access:
• Help with Council Tax and housing costs
• Free NHS dental treatment
• Warm Home Discount & Cold Weather Payments
• A free TV licence (if 75+)
• Extra financial support for daily living

To apply, call 0800 99 1234 or visit https://orlo.uk/vFuv4

It’s quick to check – and you don’t need to be an expert to help someone get started.
