🥳 Looking for a fun and supportive way to help children make choices?

Here’s a lovely example of a song choice board (created by our speech and language therapy assistant Clare.) Feel free to save, print and use it!

1⃣ Start by offering two simple options. "Would you like to sing baa baa black sheep or itsy bitsy spider?" 🎶

2⃣ 👀 Watch how the child responds (do they look longer, reach out, or say the word?) to help them communicate their preferences. Choosing boards can be used for toys, activities, or even songs!

If you want to make your own choosing board you can use photos or pictures of familiar items or activities- like a trampoline or scooter.

What is ✨ Core vocabulary ✨ ?

One of our speech and language therapy assistants, Fiona, explains:

I’ve been working with 2 children at Knollmead Primary School Specialist Resourced Provision (S.R.P) for children who are deaf, helping them with consistent speech using Core Vocabulary therapy 🎤👧🧒

Here’s how it works:
📝 Parents/teachers pick 50 key words
🎯 We focus on 6-8 target words each week
🎲 Children practice words through fun games like Matching Pairs, Lotto, Fishing, and more!
🏆 When words are said consistently, they move to the Celebration Chart — a big win! 🎉

The goal? To help each child say their 50 target words clearly and confidently, so others understand them every time 👏💬
