This week marks six years since I started my first formal yoga class (see the last two pics). It didn't quite work out in person, but all this time later we're still going online - 9 people came this week!

I started teaching in June 2018 - my training was 18 months, started in April 2018 - organising classes at work and with friends, I went in hard. At the start of the pandemic I did my pregnancy and postnatal training with and never looked back. I have a huge amount to thank for.

I've talked about this before, but I moved to this area two weeks before the pandemic with just one local friend. Since then, I've worked really hard to grow my business and build community, help support people into inclusive, welcoming movement practice and find friends for myself too!

Moments like yesterday, when we had a big old picnic after class (the foccaccia 😍), and students told me 'take a photo and put it on your socials' make it all worthwhile. One new student, Robyn, said to me, just think how many people's days you've made better today 😍 I didn't know what to say! But that was always the goal. Help where you can, send good vibes out and attract similar.

At lunchtime I evilly murdered some hips (Pilates) and last night I taught eight beautiful souls at pregnancy and yoga for everyone. 'That was a good one,' said a regular. 'I felt so zen driving home' said another. Just one of those lovely days when it all goes right for the students, and that reminds me that when the non fitness job is on fire, life continues...

I'm very excited to be coming back up to lovely Newcastle in July for a half-day of inclusive yoga and Pilates fun. Yesterday I took myself up to Walthamstow for 's 10th birthday party. As I only know owner Abby through Instagram, it was a bit nerve-wracking, as I knew I wouldn't know anyone there bar her and would be starting from scratch. I wanted to go because for a good while now Abby and I have been sort of mutually admiring each other's ethos of inclusivity and body positive, accessible practice, and it's hard to find good people doing good things, so you want to support that.

I needn't have been nervous. It was an absolutely fantastic afternoon. Abby greeted me at the door by chance, which immediately removed some nerves, and got me signed up to try reformer for the first time in her class. They were offering loads of free 30-minute sessions on everything from spin to reformer Pilates, which is such a good way to try something new.

Everyone was super friendly. I had very few moments of not having anyone to talk to, made lots of new acquaintances, and maybe even a new student! I did a reformer basics class having never been on one before and survived - Abby's language was πŸ‘Œ, which is so rare, and so refreshing.

Abby has clearly fostered an absolutely lovely, welcome community of people up at the top of the Victoria line. Often studios can feel challenging and exclusive for the newcomer but not this time. I stayed until 6 and ate pizza with some of the staff before I went home 🀸πŸ₯° however, the party carried on...

If I didn't live the polar opposite side of town I would 100% take reformer classes from Abby and probably lots of other things too. If you're local, I really think you should try here 😍 10 years of graft has led to something fantastic.

Photos
1 - the balloon welcome
2 and 3 - taking a mat Pilates with
4 - sitting on the reformer
5, 6 and 7 - three attempts to take the same photo (the second is taken from an unflattering angle, and the part of me that isn't feeling body positive struggled with it, but 24 hours has warmed me to the fact we are all just who we are, and therefore I'm keeping in all the attempts...πŸ’–

Absolutely love teaching /parent and baby . Today we had Anna H (Daisy's mum), Anna O (Ellis and Stanley's mum, Jess (Ellis and Stanley's aunt), Alex (Theo's mum), Helen (George's grandma), Maanas and Nish (Kathir's mum and dad), Philli (Sophie's mum), Eleanor (Lyra's mum), Danielle (Sebby's mum, pictured with Henry the dog, who sometimes comes) and Emily (Harvey's mum).

We try to get in some moments of peace at the start but by the end, it's chaos! Someone will be yelling, someone will be stealing toys, someone will be pulling hair, and someone will be sparko. And that's just the adults...

Age ranges go from 9 weeks to 9 months at the moment. When it's busy, I often find myself weaving between mats, shouting instructions, spotting silent milk pukes, holding small people. Wouldn't have it any other way.

On Saturday June 8 I'm teaching an accessible Ashtanga workshop at Bodhi Eden in Epsom. I would love to see you there > https://www.bodhieden.com/event-details-registration/accessible-ashtanga-workshop

f you've ever practised with me, you'll have tried some of the postures already (e.g. triangle, Warrior 2, reverse plank). It's a fun, engaging set sequence of postures, including sun salutations, standing and seated postures, and some inversions.

You flow through it with the breath, and it's really excellent for focus, building strength and giving you base blocks for home practice. We're going to be looking at how to make the sequence accessible for every body with props, language and plenty of posture variations.

As a fat person with short arms and minimal knowledge, it was both a bit overwhelming when I started learning this particular style of yoga, but also extremely rewarding, and I fell in love with it, and I hope you will too.

This workshop is for you if:

- You're seeking a more accessible approach to a strong Vinyasa practice
- You enjoy Vinyasa Flow + you want to try Ashtanga, but you're not sure where to start
- You're interested in an inclusive practice in general
- You want building blocks to take away for when you're at home

Last night we said goodbye to the Meeting Room at , where I've been teaching my and for everyone class since it started. We've loved it there but the unexpected opportunity to move over to All Saints, where I teach the same morning, was too tempting not to take up. I was so glad to have such a lovely bunch of students to finish our time there.

It means I can leave my props there all day, it's in its own little separate hall, so totally peaceful for , and it's convenient for a lot of students, as it's in the middle of a lot of roads (slightly less convenient for me!) so hoping it will in general be a great option. It took me a long while to decide - change is scary!

But I've taught so many lovely people at Ruxley, from 14 weeks up to 38, and had so many fun memories. We'll definitely miss the central heating and warm floors! Alas, I can no longer say, 'turn towards the no ball games sign/the Sea Scouts'. We will no longer laugh at the sound of teenage dancers gossiping in the Jack and Jill toilets directly behind us. No longer will snooze to the sounds of the church band rehearsing above, and other students sing along in their head. And I'll definitely miss it being five minutes from home...

Six years ago, we began our journey at . An 18-month training covering all aspects you could imagine, with high expectations, a 5000 word essay, 20 hours of teaching, 10 hours of observation, mentoring and much more (also had to take a five-day intensive so of course I went in on it with ).

It was an incredibly thorough training with a real variety of great teachers such as
and many key individuals who aren't on social media (Sasha Markovic, Cat Brokenshire, Sarah Litton). Everyone so different, providing great perspectives.

I went in keen (I was practicing ashtanga twice a week and had keenly learnt the Primary series, which gave me a super solid foundation I still pull from today) but extremely green. Not everyone in this photo made it through, and many are no longer teachers, or never taught, which is a real shame. Yogacampus itself no longer offers teacher training, also a huge shame as well.

It provided me with an incredible basis to pivot from, and I still use many of the ideas I was given back then. If you've ever done a bow and arrow movement with me, that's where it came from, an early practice with Sasha.

More recently I expanded my work into with , so now I get to feel like a green teacher all over again!

I'm extremely excited to announce I'll be teaching an inclusive practice yoga and Pilates workshop in Newcastle on 21 April.

We've already sold 60% of the tickets in just one day (which is really gratifying to hear) and, if you're local or local-ish, I would love to have you as one of the remaining spots.

We'll discuss how to practice kindness (ahimsa) towards ourselves in fitness spaces, in a weight-neutral, judgement-free way. We'll play with postures to see how you can make them work for your body, and talk about use of language to support this.

We'll also discuss power imbalance and informed consent, and look at how you can find your agency in class, helping you feel safe and in control.

We'll finish with a practice mixing elements of and , showing you how to implement everything you've learned, finishing off with some dedicated time for you to relax and restore.

And then whoever wants to can come for lunch before I traipse back to London! You can book via https://www.momoyoga.com/lit-yoga/event/5814f767-5421-4fc1-9118-9f124bfbccf5 or using the QR code in the photo :)
