August is Psoriasis Action Month 🧡

Each August, the National Psoriasis Foundation brings together a global community of over 125 million people who live with psoriasis. It’s a time to raise awareness, share stories, and show support for everyone impacted by this chronic condition.

Psoriasis is more than just a skin issue — it’s an immune-mediated disease that sp*eds up skin cell production, causing a buildup that leads to flaky, scaly patches on the skin. These patches can be red or pink on white skin, and purple, dark brown, or grey on brown and Black skin. They’re most commonly found on the elbows, knees, scalp, and lower back — but they can appear anywhere.

For some, psoriasis is a minor irritation. For others, it’s a condition that affects their physical comfort, mental health, and overall quality of life. It can be itchy, sore, and unpredictable, with periods of flare-ups and times of relief.

🧬 While the exact cause isn’t fully understood, it’s linked to a problem with the immune system, where healthy skin cells are attacked by mistake.

Psoriasis can run in families, and symptoms are often triggered by infections, stress, skin injuries, or certain medications.

It affects people of all ages, genders, and ethnicities — and while it’s not contagious, it is often misunderstood.
