SketchBetter is a new enterprise that uses drawing to encourage emotional literacy and mindfulness in young people and adults. We run events, personalised services and use sketching as a catalyst to encourage young people and families to be mindful of their mental health and emotional well-being. SketchBetter is creating communities and support networks to bring young people and entrepreneurs to a
place where they can develop creative ideas and carve out their dreams for the future. We teach a method of mindful and meditative sketching and are sparking a fresh new conversation on mental health, wellbeing and emotional literacy in young people and adults today. Our workshops and programmes are designed to remove emotional barriers, build confidence, develop creativity, learn mindfulness and reveal and harness potential. We offer workshop spaces and creative classes where young people, entrepreneurs and creatives are encouraged to reconnect with and learn from their emotions. An alarming number of young people, entrepreneurs and creative practitioners are struggling with low self-esteem and mental health illnesses including as anorexia, depression and self-harming. SketchBetter offers people an alternative to feeling disconnected to themselves, to others and to life. Note from the Founder, Kate Andrews:
On BBC Newsnight in May, psychologist Dr Tanya Byron told the British nation, "It's time to wake up. We have an emotional crisis.” I am launching SketchBetter in the UK as a direct response to the emotional and mental health crisis I continue to witness. I am challenging every child, teenager, teacher, creative, parent, entrepreneur (and you sitting here on Facebook) to step forward and share a story, grab a pen, listen to your breath, notice the noise in their heads…. and pause... for a moment.
