You may have seen on .uk - I’ve published my first open letter. I’m urging policy makers and Social prescribers to recognise Massage Therapy as a treatment for Mental Health conditions.

This letter has the endorsement of Dr Joanne Smith, GP and Helen Farrell BA (Hons) Psychotherapist.

I’ve spent nearly 4 years running my campaign, pushing to help people understand Mental Health conditions from a physical perspective. I’m also wanting to get the recognition we as an industry deserve for the impact our work can have on people struggling with their Mental Health. We can all have such a positive impact, and it’s something I will always push.

Beyond Talk; The Case for Massage Therapy in Mental Health Policy

The letter outlines how symptoms such as chronic muscle tension, sleep disruption, fatigue, nervous system dysregulation and pain are often left untreated within current conventional care models, and it highlights with research showing that massage therapy can:

* Lower cortisol levels (the body’s primary stress hormone)
* Increase serotonin and dopamine linked to mood regulation
* Activate the parasympathetic nervous system
* Improve sleep quality and reduce physical tension

The letter also calls for

- Official recognition of massage therapy within social prescribing
- Funding for pilot programmes integrating therapists into primary care
- Further research into cost-effectiveness
- Inclusion of massage in return-to-work support strategies

I’ve also highlighted an existing complementary therapy pilot in Kensington and Chelsea as an example of how massage can support mental health recovery, improve confidence and reduce reliance on GP services.

Had an amazing time at the .uk awards on Sunday evening. A congratulations to all the winners and finalists from the evening.

Having judged 2 categories, I saw some amazing therapists and businesses. You all have so much passion and love for what you do, it’s very clear to see and reminds me why I love this industry so much.

It was also lovely seeing all my industry friends to celebrate all the finalists ❤️ I have some great photos and videos which I will share once I’ve sorted them all!

Practical training is key for an amazing treatment, however it’s the theoretical education that really underpins how effectively we deliver our services.

That’s why I’m grateful to have just completed the Gift of Reconnection; Gold Level training.

I’ve looked at how to notice distress, start real conversations, and help people reconnect with support when they need it most, and all at an organisational level.

It’s been such a great insight, and made me think about my own business and practices. After all, we can always improve how we work! Do you agree?

Out of all the things I’ve been told during my career, this is what I hear the most. People who don’t realise how much their body needs relief from pain they’re carrying.

It always amazes me how as humans, we become accustomed to the aches and pains our bodies carry, and our ability to not think about it. And when we get that massage or bodywork, then we realise just how much we needed to address it.

Working on and opening our mind/body connection is key to understanding what our bodies are trying to tell us so we can look after them properly ❤️
