In recognition of Baby Loss Awareness Week, we're thrilled to spotlight the outstanding accomplishments of our dedicated team member, Claire, whose commitment to both philanthropy and athletic excellence is truly inspiring.

Claire ran the London Landmarks Half Marathon, running through the heart of London past iconic landmarks like Big Ben and St Paul's Cathedral - all whilst raising money for , a charity dedicated to preventing baby loss. Claire also ran a "not-for-profit" tuck shop at Tudor Practice with every penny going directly to the cause.

The very fact Claire committed to these charitable acts a few months ago is a reminder that raising awareness isn't confined to a particular week but is a continuous process.

We also need to shout out our special guest, Cooper the Dog, who cheered Claire on before photobombing her moment - a reminder that support comes in many forms.

We wish Claire and Cooper the very best in their future marathons (Claire is always up for a personal challenge) and charitable causes.

Thank you, Claire. We are super proud of you! 👏🏼✨️💐

Hypo Awareness Week

This week, we’re raising awareness about hypoglycemia — also known as low blood sugar. It’s a condition that can affect people with diabetes, especially those using insulin or certain medications.

Recognising the signs early can make a real difference.

Common symptoms include:

- shakiness or trembling
- sweating
- hunger
- confusion or difficulty concentrating
- feeling anxious or irritable

If left untreated, hypoglycemia can become serious — so it’s important to act quickly by eating or drinking something sugary (like glucose tablets, fruit juice, or a sugary snack) and following up with a more substantial carbohydrate source.

At Sutton Coldfield Group Practice, we encourage all our patients with diabetes to:

✅ check blood glucose levels regularly
✅ carry a source of fast-acting sugar
✅ let family, friends, and colleagues know how to help in an emergency
✅ make an appointment to see us if you experience frequent low blood sugars

Our aim is to promote understanding and help everyone living with diabetes stay safe and well. 💙

Organ Donation Week – Joshua’s Story 🙏🏻

This Organ Donation Week, one of our Pharmacy Technicians has chosen to share her family’s personal journey to highlight just how life-changing organ donation can be.

In May 2019, what seemed like a simple tummy bug turned into something far more serious for her 7-year-old son, Joshua. He was diagnosed with HUS, a rare condition caused by an E. coli infection, which led to kidney failure.

From that moment, life completely changed. Joshua needed dialysis for 10–12 hours a day and had to be fed through a tube. Family meals stopped, holidays were no longer possible, and everyday childhood moments were put on hold.

After two unsuccessful calls, in 2024, Joshua finally received a kidney transplant one day after his 12th birthday.

This gift hasn’t just given Joshua a second chance at life — it has given his whole family their lives back too. He can now eat and drink normally, play sports, travel abroad, swim, stay out with friends, and enjoy life as a teenager.

Behind this joy is the incredible generosity of a donor and their family, who made the bravest choice at the hardest time.

Organ donation isn’t easy, but it truly changes everything. Please take time this week to have the conversation with your loved ones and make your wishes known. 💙

Thank you to our wonderful patient community and all those who attended our Patient Education Sessions last weekend on the NHS App and Rapid Health.

We were thrilled with the turnout, and it was great to be able to help our patients understand the systems a little better and to also help those that needed technical assistance with downloading and navigating the app.

We still have further sessions planned - three sessions each day at 10:00am, 11:00am and 12:00pm on both 20th and 27th September at our Ley Hill site.

Due to the popularity and success of the event, we are now asking patients to register their attendance by booking a place on one of the sessions by contacting the surgery.

We look forward to seeing you at one of our free sessions.
