📢 An important notice for vulnerable patient safety

On Sunday, 7 September 2025 at 3:00 PM, the UK Government will conduct a national test of the Emergency Alerts system. During the test, most mobile phones and tablets (compatible 4G and 5G devices) across the UK will:

- emit a loud, siren-like sound and vibrate for about 10 seconds, even if set to silent or Do-Not-Disturb

- display a message stating: “This is a test – no action is needed.”

VULNERABLE PATIENTS ⚠️

For those who carry hidden or concealed phones for personal safety—such as those experiencing domestic abuse, a loud alert could inadvertently reveal the device, posing serious risks.

At Sutton Coldfield Group Practice, we’re always looking for ways to make your healthcare safer, more accurate, and more efficient.

That’s why from 17th September 2025, we’ll no longer be able to take prescription requests over the phone – unless it’s noted in your medical record that you need this option.

Why the change?

Using secure online systems or printed requests helps speed and accuracy, frees up our phone lines for urgent medical needs, and means we can serve you more quickly.

How to order your repeat prescriptions:

✅ Online – NHS App or SystmOne Online (fast, safe & available 24/7)
✅ In Person – bring your completed repeat prescription slip to the surgery (printed on right-hand side of your prescription - no hand written notes)
✅ By Post– Send your completed slip to us (printed on right-hand side of your prescription - no hand written notes)

💡 Top tips for stress-free ordering:

* Order at least a week before you run out
* Keep an eye on your supply, especially before holidays
* Speak to our reception team if you need help setting up online ordering – we’ll walk you through it

A Yellow Heat Health Alert has been issued for the Midlands from 12:00 PM on Monday, 11th August to 6:00 PM on Wednesday, 13th August. Temperatures are expected to exceed 30°C, with potential highs reaching 33°C.
