Celebrating Good Care Month with a Win for Safeguarding Excellence! 🏆

As we mark Good Care Month, we’re incredibly proud to share that Donna Rope, our Safeguarding Coordinator, and Sutton Coldfield Group Practice have recently received the NHS Birmingham and Solihull ICS Safeguarding Champions Award for Safeguarding Excellence in Primary Care 🙌💫

The award followed a presentation at the General Practice Safeguarding Network Meeting, in which Donna, Dr. Bovington and Dr. Howland showcased how they work together and go above and beyond to safeguard vulnerable patients.

Their exceptional teamwork demonstrates their commitment to delivering high-quality primary care — and how we put patients at the heart of everything we do.

👏 A huge well done to Donna and the team — and thank you to everyone working tirelessly to deliver great care this month and every month.

Please don't forget your sunscreen! Sunburn increases your risk of skin cancer. And sunburn does not just happen on holiday - you can burn in the UK, even when it's cloudy.

Melanoma is a type of skin cancer and its main cause is ultraviolet light, which comes from the sun and sunbeds. Melanoma can spread to other areas of the body too.

Use the ABCDE checklist to look for signs of melanoma on your skin – and learn when to contact your GP practice.

📢 **Free Webinar for Alcohol Awareness Week – July 9 at 12 – 12:40 PM** 📢

Living Well Taking Control is hosting a free patient webinar on 9th July 2025 from 12:00-12:40 for to raise awareness of the shared risk factors between alcohol, Type 2 diabetes, and the importance of early intervention in prevention.

This session is designed for patients who are at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes or have been diagnosed with prediabetes but have not yet accessed the NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme (NDPP). Patients from underserved areas, ethnic minority backgrounds, younger demographics, and those with a history of gestational diabetes (GDM) are encouraged to participate as these groups are at higher risk.

Why is this important?

Early intervention can significantly reduce the likelihood of Type 2 diabetes and its complications, improve long-term health outcomes, and reduce strain on healthcare services.

Through this webinar, attendees will:

✔ Learn how alcohol and diabetes are linked
✔ Understand the importance of addressing prediabetes early
✔ Gain practical tips on healthy eating, physical activity, stress management, and better sleep
✔ Discover free NHS resources available to support lifestyle changes

📆 When: Wednesday, 9 July 2025 🕛Time: 12:00 – 12:40 PM
💻 Where: Microsoft Teams (link provided after registration)

📢 Weight Loss Medication Update

You may have heard that from the 23rd June 2025, GPs can prescribe Tirzepatide (Mounjaro) for weight loss.

However, the Birmingham and Solihull Integrated Care Board (BSOL ICB) is still finalising how this will be provided. It is expected to be offered through local clinics, as there has been no planning from the ICB to provide it via individual GP practices.

Initially, the treatment will be available only to people with a BMI over 40 who also have four weight-related health conditions such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnoea, heart disease, or type 2 diabetes.

Please do not book appointments specifically to request this medication at this time, as this service is not yet operational.

We will notify you as soon as the service is available. When it starts, eligible patients will be invited to participate. Doctors will review patient records to identify those who qualify.

For the latest updates, please visit the ICB website:
https://www.birminghamsolihull.icb.nhs.uk/health-information/clinical-pathways/weight-management

The ICB’s website is regularly updated as the situation develops.

From July, younger women (aged 25 to 49) who test negative for HPV, meaning they are at very low risk of cervical cancer over the next 10 years, will safely be invited every 5 years rather than every 3, in line with major clinical evidence.

This change is based on strong evidence showing that people without HPV are at very low risk of cervical cancer.

If you missed your last one, book an appointment with your GP.

We recently took part in the Sutton Fun Run and had a blast! The iconic 8.5-mile event brought together thousands of runners, walkers, and supporters for a day filled with energy, community spirit, and charitable giving.

A mix of our practice partners, staff, and their families joined the event—and it was enjoyed by all 🙌

What a challenge—and what an adrenaline rush! 💪

A huge thanks to everyone who cheered us on and helped us raise vital funds for local causes. You make it worth every step! 🏃‍♀️
