Hello everyone,
It’s been a while since our last update, but things have been exceptionally busy at Four Oaks Psychology! We are delighted to share that we have recently secured a new and exclusive location for our clinic, and the team has been working diligently behind the scenes to prepare it for our first clients next week. We are very much looking forward to welcoming them. Look out for a post next week when we announce our new launch!
This week I have enjoyed a valuable opportunity for a much-needed pause after the busy time of getting the clinic ready. A break can really highlight how easily we can become immersed in the demands of daily life. It’s often the case that we can become desensitised to the pace and associated stress. The photos posted here captured some of the beautiful scenery I enjoyed during a brief hike. This experience served as a powerful reminder of the importance of dedicating time for respite, even amidst a demanding schedule. The connection with nature and the wider environment offers significant benefits for mental wellbeing and I will be reminding myself of this on a more regular basis! Enjoy your bank holiday all and try and get out into the fresh air if you can.

Four Oaks Psychology has grown again over the last month and I feel so privileged and lucky to have such warm and wonderful colleagues to call my team. This month we have welcomed Amandeep who joins us from a specialist background of perinatal mental health. Amandeep also is an academic tutor of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy at The University of Oxford. Also, we welcome Jane who is doing a wonderful job as our new administrator. We are so pleased to have both of you on board!

I am reposting this image as something really resonated with me following recent discussions with my clients. Sometimes mental health is viewed differently to physical health. There can be a wish for a magic wand, a linear progression of improvement. There can be disappointment about perceived relapse or to feel difficult feelings once again. The role of therapy is not to stop you having difficult feelings. In fact, with the unpredictability of life, that is impossible. Unpleasant emotions are normal. I prefer to invite clients to think of mental health as something they need to look after in the same way as their physical health. Something that needs to be continually attended to, both during and once therapy has ended. Something that can still be subject to deterioration, despite best efforts. This however does not mean you are failing. In fact many clients express feeling resilient that therapy has given them the tools to tolerate difficult feelings and the challenges of life, either autonomously or with professional support. This is all still progress, I invite you to remember this next time things are feeling difficult for you.

Grief from loss can be an isolating, lonely experience, which separates you from everyday life. Local support groups can be a helpful opportunity to share experiences and connect with others who will have a similar lived experience.

Our Bereavement/Friendship group meet at the Pint Pot Community Pub on the last Monday of the month from 1.30 - 3.30pm for a general chat, sharing experiences and enjoying each other’s company. If you are bereaved or lonely, male or female, you are welcome to join us.

Please telephone 308 6719 for further information or just turn up. This invitation is open to all, not just for members of St James’ Church Family, so please feel free to tell anyone who might benefit from this group about it.

We are looking for a HCPC registered practitioner psychologist with experience working therapeutically 1:1 with a client group aged 16+ to join our established private practice as an associate.

The associate will be required to offer in person appointments at our lovely clinic in Sutton Coldfield. It is anticipated that the associate will offer 4-6 sessions, one day per week. Payment will be made on a sessional basis (£70 per session). The post holder will benefit from use of a fully established clinical system for note recording and scheduling, fully furnished therapy room serviced by a reception with receptionist, access to psychological resources that are subscribed to by the organisation, access to an administrator who manages client appointments, collecting payment and answering administrative queries.

This flexible arrangement may be ideal for a clinician who already has a part time role within a setting such as the NHS who would like to gain experience working privately in an established practice, or earn extra income without the practical demands or financial cost of establishing and maintaining a private practice.

The associate will manage their own caseload and will be able to invoice at the end of each calendar month for immediate payment.

There will be opportunity for case discussion and in house peer supervision on a regular basis. The associate will be required to ensure that their own clinical supervision requirements are being met in line with HCPC guidelines and the BPS ethical framework. The associate will be required to use the clinical computer system WriteUpp for clinical note reporting and scheduling.

All associates are required to provide evidence of HCPC registration, DBS clearance, indemnity insurance policy, ICO registration certificate (to ensure GDPR compliance) and two professional references.

It was such a beautiful bright sunny day in the clinic today, not only outside but inside too. It is such a joy to reach the end of sessions with clients, reflecting about how much things have changed for the better. Today has been one of those happy days. It is a privilege to accompany my clients on their journey, which often begins in such a painful place.
