Only 18 months ago, we were forced to make £1 million in cuts to protect frontline care. Today, there is nothing left to trim without affecting patient care and the families who rely on us. Without sustainable funding, our hospice beds will have to close.

This week, we stood outside 10 Downing Street alongside hospice colleagues from across the country, continuing to call for fair and urgent funding.

Thank you for standing with us!

If you’re able to help with a donation to protect our hospice beds, please consider supporting our appeal. Every contribution, big or small, makes a meaningful difference 💜

A hospice bed changed everything for Marie and her family.

When Tony’s mum, Marie, was told she had weeks to live, she had spent two days in a hospital corridor.

When a bed became available at the Hospice for Marie, her pain was managed. Her fears were eased. And slowly, her warm and bubbly personality returned.

“Mum got the love, respect, and dignity she deserved in her final days. Everyone deserves that.” – Tony, Marie’s son

Marie died peacefully on our ward, surrounded by her family. Everyone deserves that. Every hospice bed matters. Please give what you can to help protect beds like Marie’s.

Every day, families in our community rely on a bed at St Raphael's to care for someone they love at the end of life.

But today, our beds are at risk.

Only 18 months ago, we had to make £1 million in cuts to protect frontline care. We still receive just 25% of our funding from the NHS, while costs continue to rise and demand for our services grows.

There is nothing left to trim without affecting patient care. Without sustainable funding, our hospice beds will have to close.

That’s why we’re asking for your support today.

“In the hospital corridor, Mum shut down. At St Raphael’s, she started joking again. They gave us back the person we knew and loved. This bed, and the support they gave her, changed everything.” – Tony, Marie’s son

Marie died with dignity, surrounded by her loved ones – not in a corridor, but in a place of expert care and compassion.

Every patient and family in our community deserves that.
Please help us protect this vital care and keep every bed at our hospice open.

Finding comfort in the little moments 💜

Peter and Debbie have been spending time on the ward side by side, building a puzzle together. Nurses drop in to check on Peter’s comfort, for a chat, and sometimes to help find the next piece.

Between visits from loved ones (and their two dogs 🐾), time in the Orangery and gardens, and sessions at the Wellbeing Centre, they’ve found comfort in a new daily rhythm.

“That feeling of being in a safe space, in safe hands, knowing you’ll be looked after makes all the difference,” Debbie shares.

“This Hospice is a joy. There is so much care, kindness and dignity from all corners.”
