🎧 Have you listened to Alex’s episode yet?

In this episode of Your Voice Matters, neurodiversity and inclusion specialist, Alex Silk, shares the importance of listening to young people in educational decisions, the realities of different school provisions, and practical strategies for supporting neurodivergent students.

This is her lived experience, and here’s what we can take away from her story:

➡️ Career fulfilment comes from making a genuine difference, not just earning money. Find your true purpose.

➡️ Learning communication goes both ways: observing and adapting to how young people communicate is more effective than expecting them to adapt to us.

➡️ Most children with additional needs thrive in mainstream schools with appropriate support, and families should explore all options, including resource provisions within mainstream settings.

➡️ Educational decisions should prioritise the young person's voice and experience.

➡️ Research and school visits are essential, but the most important factor is listening to what feels right for your child and respecting their preferences.
What has resonated with you most from her story and experience? I would love to hear your thoughts.

🎧 Have you listened to Chris’ episode yet?

In this episode of Your Voice Matters, hypnotherapist and former paramedic Chris, shares her journey with dyslexia.

This is Chris’ lived experience, and here’s what we can take away from her story:

➡️ Early labels and stigma can shape how we see ourselves for decades, but healing and acceptance are always possible.

➡️ Many neurodivergent individuals develop their own coping strategies and may struggle to accept formal accommodations due to past experiences.

➡️ Pushing through challenges is part of many neurodivergent journeys, but recognising when we need support is equally important.

➡️ Finding safe spaces and supportive environments makes it easier to share our authentic selves without fear of judgment.

➡️ Our neurodivergent traits can become strengths when we embrace them and use them to help others.

🎧 Have you listened to Carly’s episode yet?

In this episode of Your Voice Matters, Carly shares practical coping strategies that help her family navigate daily challenges.

This is Carly’s lived experience, and here’s what we can take away from her story:

➡️ You don't need something specific to be anxious about. Sometimes anxiety comes from nowhere, and that's valid.

➡️ When anxiety takes over, logical thinking becomes nearly impossible. Having a calm, rational person nearby can help ground you.

➡️ Racing heart, shaking, feeling hot, stomach aches etc. Anxiety shows up in the body in powerful ways that can't be dismissed.

➡️ Hiding anxiety to fit in or get through social situations uses enormous energy and leads to exhaustion afterward.

➡️ Walking, breathing exercises, mindfulness activities and keeping busy with small tasks can help regulate during anxious moments.

What has resonated with you most from Carly’s story and experience? I would love to hear your thoughts.

AJIC Transformational Journey

My name is Asma Jacob, and I have set up Achievable Journey to Inspire Change. (AJ IC)as I am very passionate about helping others and really believe using these techniques can make a huge difference. My goal is to support children and adults with special needs to be able to achieve day to day tasks by staying calm, relaxed and feel in control. I believe working intensely with individuals/groups, i can enable people to become more independent and able to access the bigger world feeling more in control of their emotion. I use bespoke strategies using NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) and EFT (Emotional Freedome Techinique) and Hypnotherapy with Solution Focus Psychotherapy which will give people the right tools to achieve their goal. I am also able to support and work closely with parents/carers to give them the right tools, to be able to support themselves and their children. These tools can help with behavior that can be challenging, phobia's, stress, anxiety, and more. My mission is to work together with schools, professional organisations and within the home, as i truly believe looking at all aspects and working together can make a huge positive impact in anyones life. This can be achieved through 1:1 sessions, group sessions, workshops etc. or a combination of ways.
