💚 Today is day so in honour of this here are some important reminders for us mums.

💚 Becoming a mum can feel hard at times. Feelings of loneliness and sadness at the loss of the life you had before you had your baby are not uncommon but are not commonly spoken about for fear of judgement or being deemed a ‘bad’ mother. They also come with a decent helping of guilt for having those feelings.

💚 We’re here to tell you to go easy on yourself; you’re doing a great job. We were never meant to do this on our own.

💚 If you are struggling and feel you could use some support, here are some people who can help you. You are not alone.

👉Pandas PND Awareness and Support Helpline - 0808 1961 776

👉Mind Charity Helpline - 0300 123 3393

👉Samaritans Helpline – 116 123

💚 Check in on your new mum friends today. Ask them how they’re doing. Then ask them how they’re really doing.

🤧 Flu season is here and unlike a common cold, the flu can hit hard and fast with fever, aches, chills, cough, and exhaustion that stops you from going about your normal daily life.

💉The flu vaccine is the best way to protect yourself and those you love. It’s especially important for:

👉 Babies & children - Children aged 2–17 are usually offered the nasal spray vaccine through GP surgeries or school programmes. If your little one is under 2 and has a long-term health condition, they’ll be offered the jab instead (as the spray isn’t licensed for under 2s).

👉 Pregnant women - Flu can be more serious during pregnancy, leading to risks like preterm labour. Getting the vaccine helps protect both you and your baby, even after birth.

👉 Older adults, carers & those with health conditions - The vaccine helps reduce complications and hospital admissions.

In the UK, many people can get the flu jab free on the NHS through your GP, local pharmacy, or school vaccination programme.

✅ Taking a few minutes to arrange your jab could mean avoiding days (or weeks) of illness and more importantly, it helps protect your family and community.
Speak to your GP, midwife, or local pharmacy to book yours today.

🔖 SAVE this post!

🦷 One question we are often asked by parents in our first aid classes is what to do if a child ever knocks out a tooth.

👉 So here’s what you should do:

A knocked-out adult tooth can usually be saved by putting it back in place, or in milk as soon as possible before seeing dentist.

👉 If it's an adult (permanent) tooth:

Hold it by the white bit that sticks out of the gum (the crown). Do not touch the root.
Lick it clean if it's dirty, or quickly rinse it in cold running water for no more than 10 seconds.

👉 Try to put it back into the hole in the gum.

If it does not go in easily:
- put it in milk
- put it in saliva – by spitting into a container (if it's your tooth) or having your child spit into a container (if it's theirs)
- hold it in your cheek until you see the dentist – but do not ask younger children do this in case they swallow it

👉 If it goes back in, bite down gently on a clean cloth to hold the tooth in place.

Go to a dentist as soon as possible.

👉 If it's a baby tooth:
- do not put it back in – it could damage the tooth growing underneath

👉 If you do not know if it's an adult or baby tooth:
- put it in milk or saliva (by having your child spit into a container) and bring it to the dentist

🦷 If you or your child have knocked out an adult tooth, even if you cannot find it it’s best to get help as quickly as possible – call 111 as soon as possible for advice on what to do.

❤️ How beautiful are this little one’s eyes!!

👀 Having different coloured eyes is a rare condition called Heterochromia.

There are 3 types of Heterochromia:

👉 Complete Heterochromia where both eyes are a completely different colour.

👉 Central Heterochromia, which is discolouration within the iris. The inner ring of the iris is different from the colour of the outer ring. The inner ring often appears to have flecks of different colours.

👉 Sectoral Heterochromia, also known as partial heterochromia, occurs when only one part of the iris is different from the rest. It looks like a different coloured spot on the iris.

Heterochromia is a rare condition. In most cases, it doesn’t affect vision or cause any health complications. However, when central heterochromia occurs later in life, it may be a sign of an underlying condition. If your baby has Heterochromia make sure you mention it to a health professional.

🫶🏻 This is for all the parents for whom the start of the new school term hasn’t been smiley doorstep photos and excited children.

We are sending love to those children and parents of children who struggle to be in a school setting, who perhaps can’t be in school as much as their peers and for those who don’t attend school.

❤️ We know how incredibly tough the SEN parenting journey can be so if you have found the past few weeks tough we are sending you love.

🛁 Should you delay your baby’s first bath?

❓ Have you ever wondered what the white, creamy substance covering a newborn’s body is? It’s called Vernix Caseosa, or just vernix.

Vernix Caseosa literally means ‘Vernix’ = to varnish, ‘caseous’ = cheesy nature.

👉 This coating develops at around 20 weeks gestation and forms a protective layer on baby’s skin. It has a waxy texture, which keeps baby’s skin moisturised in the amniotic fluid. It also facilitates extra-uterine adaptation of skin in the first postnatal week (if it’s not washed away after birth).

🔹Vernix is made up of shed foetal skin cells and shed lanugo (the fine hair that babies grow in utero all over their bodies).

Some benefits of vernix:

👉It provides “water-proofing” to babies in utero
👉It lubricates the baby to minimise friction on its way through the birth canal
👉It moisturises baby’s skin
👉It forms a protective barrier on baby’s skin
👉The vernix within amniotic fluid when swallowed by the baby can help develop healthy gut bacteria
👉It is thought to have antioxidant properties because is contains vitamin-E and melanin
👉It helps newborns to maintain their body temperature

🔹 The World Health Organisation recommends leaving the vernix on the skin for at least 6 hours and preferably 24 hours to give your baby its full benefit. Most of the vernix will absorb into baby’s skin within the first 24 hours but it can take about 3-5 days for it all to be completely absorbed so it might be a good idea to delay baby’s first bath for a few days to allow for all the benefits of this amazing stuff!
