🧬 Hormones are chemicals produced by different glands across your body. They travel through the bloodstream, acting as messengers and playing a part in many bodily processes.

😊 One of these important functions is helping to regulate your mood.

Certain hormones are known to help promote positive feelings, including happiness and pleasure and these are some very simple ways we can help our bodies to produce them!

❤️ Today we want to take a moment to recognise just how much commitment goes into pumping. Not just physically, but mentally too.

Pumping can be exhausting. The planning, the cleaning, the timing, the interrupted sleep, the sitting attached to a machine while life carries on around you. It can feel isolating, frustrating and relentless at times. It is hard work, even on the days when it is going well.

🫶🏻 But it is also an incredible act of love and determination. Showing up again and again, even when you are tired, touched out or doubting yourself, takes real strength.

If you are pumping right now, whether that is full time, part time, exclusively or occasionally, we see you. If you pumped for a week, a month or longer than you ever thought you would, that matters. And if you stopped because it was too much, that matters too.

🤱🏼However you feed your baby, you are doing an amazing job.

😮‍💨 Your child may be sleepy or confused for a while after a breath holding episode.
Although breath-holding can be scary for parents, it's usually harmless and your child should grow out of it by the age of 4 or 5.

Breath-holding episodes:

👉 usually last for less than 1 minute (if the child faints, they'll usually regain consciousness within 1 or 2 minutes)
👉 are not epileptic seizures
👉 Your child is not doing it on purpose and cannot control what happens when they have a breath-holding episode.

Call 999 if:
👉 faints and cannot be woken up
👉 is shaking or jerking because of a fit
👉 is blue or grey

These could be symptoms of breath-holding, but could also be related to other, more serious conditions. If a doctor has not previously told you it's breath-holding, it's important to get it checked immediately.

See a GP if:

👉 your child has already been diagnosed with breath-holding and:
👉 has breath-holding episodes more often than before or the episodes seem worse
👉 is stiff or shakes for longer than a minute and takes a while to recover
👉 has breath-holding episodes that are affecting everyday life
👉 The GP will try to find out if there's a more serious underlying condition. They may suggest an ECG to check your child's heart rhythm.

🔹Cervical cancer causes around 685 deaths in England each year, but the good news is this is one cancer that can be prevented.

🔹Thanks to cervical screening and the HPV vaccine, eliminating cervical cancer is more achievable than ever before.

🔹Cervical screening saves lives.

🔹The NHS Love Your Cervix campaign launches this week and it’s an important reminder to attend your smear test if you’ve been invited and if you’re not sure if you’re due one to get in touch with your GP to find out.

🔹The test itself takes less than 5 minutes, and the whole appointment is usually around 10 minutes. A few minutes of discomfort are worth the peace of mind.

⚠️ Choking is silent and happens very quickly. So it’s important to know what to do when it happens and to act fast.

It’s also important to do whatever you can to prevent children from choking.

👉Here are some of the top choking hazards for children under 5.

Please remember:

❗️STAY with young children when they’re eating.

❗️Make sure children are STILL while they are eating. A child running around with food in their mouth is much more likely to choke.

🔹You might have heard of Blue Monday, which is often labelled as the “most depressing day of the year”. And it’s today!

☕️ But the lovely folks at Samaritans have rebranded it as Brew Monday, and we are very here for that.

💚 The idea is simple and powerful. Mental health struggles do not neatly fit into one day on the calendar. They can show up any day, any week, any month. That is why checking in on the people we care about should be a regular thing.

☕️ Brew Monday is all about connection. Putting the kettle on, sending a quick message, having a proper chat, or just sitting together and listening. No fixing, no pressure, just being there.

Today is a great reminder to reach out to a friend to see how they’re doing.
🫶 A small check in can make a big difference.
If you are struggling, you do not have to cope alone. Support is always available.
