A throwback to one of our favourite images from last year's World Federation for Music Therapy photo competition ๐Ÿ˜ Marina Raidt-Altunashvili of Georgia was awarded third place with this wonderful image of a young, joyful Music Therapy participant playing drums. What a beautiful moment!

Sometimes plans change ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ
This morning I set out to attend an experiential sensory discovery day training session near London but unfortunately due to train cancellations and delays I was unable to attend
Sometimes these things happen but when faced with a difficult decision, I made the choice to return home and spend time in the beautiful sunshine and look to do some further reading and research with my time
I will look to re-book the training as it was going to be such an informative day ๐Ÿ™‚

Empowering wellness through music

19/05/2025

โ€œWhat you have to remember is that music is a much more subtle and complicated language than any spoken or written language, and if you can give children access to music, no matter what their difficulties in hearing, speech, mobility and understanding, youโ€™re giving them a chance to celebrate their humanity, their spirituality, their energy, their creativity, their sense of fun."

๐ŸŽถ Music Heals the Mind โ€” and Brings Us Together ๐Ÿง ๐Ÿ’š

This Mental Health Awareness Week, weโ€™re celebrating how music can support mental well-being and bring our community closer. Whether it's singing together, sharing playlists, or just listening with a friendโ€”music creates space for connection, reflection, and healing.

Letโ€™s keep the conversation going and support one another through the power of music and community. ๐ŸŽต๐Ÿ’™

๐ŸŽถ Sometimes it's as simple as a ukulele and some lyric sheets. I have found that the tone of a ukulele works well in small groups for singing. The use of lyrics supports the ability to engage in the singing but they're not always needed, but sometimes handy to have.
๐ŸŽถ The use of a speaker gives access to a wealth of music using platforms such as Spotify and YouTube. I've found this supports the sessions when music is requested from an era or genre that I am not personally familiar with.
๐Ÿ““๐Ÿ–Š I find a notebook is always useful to quickly write down any song titles or lyrics that come up in a session which means they are not forgotten and can be brought to the next session

๐ŸŽถ Music therapy is a powerful tool for self-expression and communication, offering a unique way to articulate emotions and connect with others. It taps into the universal language of music, which transcends words and cultural barriers, allowing individuals to express complex feelings that may be difficult to verbalize.
๐ŸŽถ Through activities such as songwriting, improvisation, and listening, music therapy facilitates emotional release and understanding, promoting healing and personal growth.
๐ŸŽถ Additionally, it provides a safe space for individuals to explore their thoughts and emotions, fostering a sense of connection and empathy with others. Whether used in clinical settings or personal practice, music therapy has the potential to enhance communication, improve emotional well-being, and build stronger interpersonal relationships
