“This is a major step forward in bowel cancer detection. Finding bowel cancer earlier can mean less intensive treatment, a better chance of recovery, and in many cases people can avoid cancer altogether by having dangerous polyps removed before they cause harm."

UHDB is helping support quicker diagnosis of bowel cancer disease, using home-testing kits.

The Trust is one of three in the Midlands using the FIT tests, which are offered to all people over 50 years of age and work by checking poo samples for blood, which can be a sign of bowel cancer.

Find out more about the tests and how they are helping to save lives, here: https://www.uhdb.nhs.uk/latest-news/uhdb-leading-the-way-to-detect-and-prevent-thousands-more-bowel-cancers-with-more-sensitive-screening-20594

Children under 6 are now being offered the MMRV vaccine instead of MMR as part of the NHS routine childhood vaccination programme.

This replaces the existing MMR vaccine and adds protection against chickenpox, alongside measles, mumps and rubella.

You don’t need to do anything — your GP will contact you when your child is due.

Our next 15 Steps visit to anyone who wants to help improve maternity and neonatal care, whether you’re an expectant parent, a past parent, a family member or simply someone who cares about better experiences for our community.

During this session, we’ll walk through SCBU and the Postnatal Ward to understand what feels welcoming, what works well and where small improvements could make a big difference.

Your perspective matters more than you realise, the things you notice are often the things that help shape real change.

If you’d like to join us on 26th January, 10–2 at Queens Hospital Burton SCBU, please email: ddicb.derbyshirematernityvoices@nhs.net to reserve your place.

Every voice helps us build better, safer, kinder maternity care.
We’d love to have you with us.

This looks amazing! Check it out and share with people who might benefit 😊
