It’s Mines Rescue Day! ⛏️

For over a century, MRS Training & Rescue has proudly supported the UK mining industry - and today we celebrate our ongoing role in providing mine rescue services across the country.

Our story began in 1902, and while mining has changed, our commitment to safety and rescue excellence remains as strong as ever.

We hold the specialist skills and competencies defined within the Mines Regulations 2014, and major mining companies trust us to deliver expert emergency response and rescue arrangements whenever needed.

Our experienced Rescue Team Leaders also serve the National Mines Rescue Scheme - producing rescue plans, schemes and risk assessments that help keep people safe underground.

Something a bit different for our team last week!

Our confined space experts from MRS Training & Rescue in Crossgates, Fife, were called to Glasgow Cathedral to access St Mungo’s Well - a site that hasn’t been entered in over 70 years. Working as part of Aproxima’s “Glasgow Requiem: The Well” project, the team safely entered the ancient crypt to remove coins and artefacts collected over many decades.

It’s always exciting to take on something so unusual and historic – and we’re proud to have played a small part in reawakening one of Glasgow’s oldest treasures.

Remembering Aberfan

On this day in 1966, tragedy struck the village of Aberfan when a colliery spoil tip collapsed, claiming the lives of 144 people – most of them children.

Our thoughts are with all those affected by this devastating event.

Our Mines Rescue Team from the Rhondda Valley were among the first to respond, providing vital assistance in the recovery efforts. Their courage and compassion in the face of unimaginable tragedy continue to inspire us today.

Today is World Mental Health Day - a day to raise awareness and support wellbeing in all workplaces.

At MRS Training & Rescue, we are proud to offer both Level 2 and Level 3 Mental Health in the Workplace training, accredited by Qualsafe. These courses equip individuals and teams with the knowledge and skills to recognise mental health challenges and respond effectively.

- Level 2: An introduction to mental health awareness, helping individuals recognise signs of stress, anxiety, and depression, and learn how to offer support.
