We’d like to say a very big thank you to the staff on Ward 308 at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust Royal Derby Hospital for their brilliant fundraising cake sale they held recently.

The Ward is one of a number of frequent callers for delivery of discharge medication to their patients at home.

Their cake sale raised a whopping £500!

They must like cake more than Derbyshire Blood Bikes’ volunteers!

Sunday 22nd March will see some of our Derbyshire Blood Bikes volunteers at the Matlock Biker Safety Event from 10am at the Grand Pavilion in Matlock Bath.

Along with Derbyshire Constabulary, Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service, BikeSafe, BikerDown Derbyshire and East Midlands Ambulance Service, IAM Derbyshire Advanced Motorcyclists, we’ll be on hand to offer riding advice and what you could do to use those advanced skills in the service of our NHS.

And another!

This time Tim collected 11 litres of DBM bound for neonatal units in the north-east, prepared by The Hearts Milk Bank.

The journey began with Serv Herts & Beds handing over to Tim at Northampton, who travelled to Wetherby Services to hand over to Northumbria Blood Bikes, who made the final leg.

Last year, A Bike Thing had a brilliant fundraiser for Derbyshire Blood Bikes. Raffling a brand new BMW R1300GS, they raised a total of £25,500! An amazing result which has now funded an *A Bike Thing* blood bike, a brand new fully specified BMW F800GS with very visible A Bike Thing logos.

Today, we returned to A Bike Thing’s workshop for some high end lighting, market leading front and rear cameras and a linked navigation and communication system.

This is the first of a number of our motorcycles and cars to be fitted with cameras, a program we hope to complete over the coming months.

While Sunday was the International Women’s Day, we celebrate our ladies today, with an all lady line up in cars and on bikes.

Jade takes the helm on Control, with her team consisting of Penny, Nicole, Sharon, Rachel and Sue.

Should be a good day and gives the boys a rest!

We welcomed the first batch of new volunteers this year to Derbyshire Blood Bikes today.

Beginning with their induction and basic paperwork, including their essential GMP test, our 9 new volunteers included 8 riders and one new controller.

All the riders are now booked on their initial mentored sessions in the next few weeks, as they begin learning the trade as a blood biker.
