Yet again, the Highfield Lane Allotment Society have been fundraising again for local charities and we were delighted to be chosen to receive one of their donations, a wonderful £500!

Thank you to all the plots holders for your fundraising efforts during the last year.

Some of our volunteers were at Horsley Woodhouse Carnical today, leading the short parade and having a presence on the carnival field.

Mike, Tim and Johno managed to stay mainly dry for some of the time!

We can never trust our weather to behave when local people have put in so much work.

This week also saw a new bike come to the fleet, thanks to Vertu BMW Motorrad Rotherham.

The BMW F800GS is a factory-lowered machine and will soon replace a 7 year old F750GS.

This is a bike we’ve committed our own resources to buying as it was available with great specification and will prove very popular, particularly with our shorter riders.

It will be a few weeks before this bike gets its operational livery so we’ve got plenty of time to incorporate any sponsor logos. Would that interest your organisation or company? A great way to show your customers or clients your corporate social credibility!

Handed over this week by Vertu’s Stuart to our Chairman Mike and Fleet team member Bill.

Thanks to Vertu for great service once again!

Our volunteer Matt made an early start with samples from the Royal Derby Hospital to Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust today, taking the opportunity for a bit of sightseeing too.

Matt was on the ‘Jim Bob’ bike, our dedicated bike to his son, James, a huge Mr Tumble fan during his all too short life.

Who knew that Brownies could now earn a ‘blood and organ donation’ badge? We didn’t until we had an invite to the Brownie Group meeting at Shelton Lock last night.

The group were really interested to hear about the work of blood bike groups who make many journeys each month carrying transfusable products, before they carried on with other tasks to earn their badge. I’m assured that no blood or organ donation was required.

Back at Packington Free Range today to present our newest Derbyshire Blood Bikes addition to the bike fleet, a fully funded BMW F800GS, thanks to the Mercer Family Charitable Foundation.

We were also delighted that we got Alec Mercer to have a sit on the bike but sadly we still couldn’t persuade him to take up motorcycling.

Trustees Graham, Sue and Mark were there to say a huge thank you to Alex and his staff for their fantastic support.

Our volunteers are out at Donington Park at the World Superbikes Park today. Helping out with the helmet park.

Also at the slightly less noisy locations of Sinfin Moor Park Community Funday, Holbrook Community Day and Richmond Villages Aston-on-Trent Summer Fair.

Four events today but still Nick and Graham (with a little extra help from Paul) out delivering the service and having a busy day!

A lovely afternoon talk to Hatton WI today, included the ladies taking a look at our blood bike, a BMW F800GS.

The only member wishing to take a seat on the Beemer was Iris, 95 years young! Well done Iris!

With the last few pieces of data validated, we can now publish our June stats.

We responded to a near identical number of requests during what's been a difficult month with a substantial number of volunteers being unavailable, some unfortunately due to illness or injury but many taking advantage of the great motorcycling weather with trips near and far, indeed one made it as far as the Sahara Desert and another doing USA coast to coast.

Our volunteers deserve to take a break and it's great to see them return safely from their adventures but it did add to the pressures of filling shifts and in June. We had 9 shifts unfilled, losing around 75 hours of volunteering time and this did have an impact on our ability to respond to all requests from the NHS. We had 17 occasions in June when we just could not respond to requests from the NHS.

We have added to our volunteer numbers and a recent induction saw total volunteer numbers top 130, with our September and November inductions also fully subscribed.

Thank you to all that have supported us by coming to see us at one of our events during June, helping us to spread the word about blood biking and raise a few pennies too!
