With the clocks going back at the end of the month, now is a good time to adjust your child’s bedtime routine to ensure they get the sleep they need. Here are some tips on how to make the transition smooth and keep everyone rested and happy.
- Adjust gradually: Shift your child’s bedtime by 15 minutes every few days leading up to the time change. This helps their body clock adjust more easily.
- Stick to a routine: Maintain consistent bedtime routines (like reading a story or having a bath) to signal that it’s time to wind down. A bath 30 minutes before bed can help to promote sleep, the decrease in body temperature after a bath can help us to nod off more easily.
- Create a calm bedroom: Keep the bedroom cool, dark, and quiet. Avoid screens and stimulating activities at least an hour before bedtime.
- Be patient: It might take a week or so for your child to fully adjust. Stay consistent and patient with the routine. It is not uncommon to think that a new routine isn’t working but it’s important to stick to it for at least two weeks in order to see results.
A smooth transition helps everyone get better sleep and wake up refreshed! 😴✨
