🌈 We’re Proud to Be Part of the Derbyshire Safe Place Scheme 🌈

At Shilvocks Funeral Directors, we’re committed to supporting our local community, not only through the care we provide to families, but also by being a trusted place of safety for anyone who feels scared, lost, or in need of help.

The Derbyshire Safe Place Scheme, supported by Derbyshire County Council, the police, and local partners, creates a network of public buildings where vulnerable people can go if they need assistance. All Safe Places display the distinctive Safe Place sticker in their window, so you can easily recognise them when you’re out and about.

If someone comes to us in need, our team can provide a private and secure place to wait, help contact a family member or carer using the Keep Safe Card details, or call emergency services if necessary.

You can apply for a Keep Safe Card which holds your emergency contact details via the Derbyshire County Council website:
www.derbyshire.gov.uk/safeplaces.

We’re proud to stand alongside other Safe Places across the county, helping make Derbyshire a safer and more caring community for everyone 💛

This afternoon, we attended Bretby Crematorium for a private (direct) cremation in honour of Mark.

It was Mark’s wish to have a simple, no-fuss farewell, and this was lovingly respected by his family.

As we arrived at the Willow Chapel, the sun shone beautifully across the grounds, a quiet and fitting moment of reflection.

We had the privilege of bringing Mark back home for his final journey, something we pride ourselves on as an independent, family-run funeral directors. Even the most private direct cremations deserve to be personal, meaningful, and memorable for those left behind.

As we gently handed Mark into the care of the chapel attendant, Tilly, our team paused for a respectful bow as the curtains closed, a simple yet powerful gesture of dignity and care.

Our Director Helen, took a moment to walk in the grounds, taking in the beauty and stillness of the surroundings, holding Mark and his family in her thoughts.

Tonight, we are thinking of Angela, Mark’s wife, his family and all who loved him.

May you be at peace, Mark 🕊️💙

As the week draws to a close, we take a moment to reflect and extend our sincere thanks to the families we have had the privilege of caring for.

We are always deeply touched by the beautiful flowers and thoughtful cards we receive. It never ceases to humble us that, even in the midst of grief, families take the time to think of their funeral director.

Your kindness is truly appreciated.

We also want to extend our thanks to the professionalism and dedication shown by the team, we couldn’t do what we do without you, it is never taken for granted or goes unnoticed.

Today’s service, held in the Cedar Service Room at Bretby Crematorium, was a moving and meaningful tribute.
A mixed-faith ceremony brought together both tradition and respect, including the gentle Hare Krishna mantra. Beautiful leis were placed at the foot of the coffin facing the congregation, alongside a reflective visual tribute celebrating a much-loved lady.

The attendance today was a true testament to the love she gave and the lives she touched.

The bespoke order of service created by our Director incorporated hand coloured pictures, her beloved cat and more importantly her family.

It is always an honour to support families at such an important and personal time. You all remain in our thoughts.

For 2026, our chosen charity to support is Rainbows Children's hospice.

On April 19th, Helen’s cousin will be taking on the Manchester Marathon in support of Rainbows Children’s Hospice 💛

Rainbows is the only children’s hospice in the East Midlands providing vital care and support for babies, children and young people with serious or life-limiting conditions, as well as their families.

They offer everything from respite and symptom management to end-of-life care and bereavement support — making an incredibly difficult journey a little more manageable for so many families.

We are so proud to be sponsoring Micky for such an amazing cause, and we’ll be there as a family on the sidelines Sunday cheering him on every step of the way! 👏

If you’re able to donate, it would be hugely appreciated for such a worthy cause:
