Four years ago today, Cinema & Co. was closed.
People saw the signs on the doors, the headlines, the noise.
But behind the scenes, I was navigating THE hardest chapter of my life —
quietly, privately, and with as much grace as I could manage.

What looked like defiance from the outside
was co.mpassion on the inside.
I reopened the next day not to make a point,
but because I believed in co.mmunity,
in kindness,
and in treating people as human beings, not labels.

What many didn’t know is that during that time,
I was also caring full-time for my mum at the end of her life.
The world demanded statements.
The left judged me by other people’s political beliefs.
She needed me.
And I made my choices accordingly.

The shutters were eventually bolted to the ground
by order of the First Minister.
The directive is still framed on the cafe wall —
a reminder of how far things went.

But Cinema & Co is still here.
Not because the system allowed it,
but because people did.
The crowdfunder kept the lights on.
The co.mmunity kept my heart steady.

I don’t tell this story to reopen old debates.
I tell it to honour what really held this place together —
love, co.urage, and people who cared.
