Why do schools and colleges need the Aquarius Peer Education Project?
By implementing a Peer Education Programme, schools and colleges can provide a unique opportunity to identify students that may be struggling with mental health difficulties. Children and young people spend a great deal of time at school; time spent impacts not just on academic and cognitive progress, but also on social interactions, peer relationships, emotional regulation and behaviour. All these areas affect, and are affected by Mental Health.
Most children grow up mentally healthy, but surveys suggest that more children and young people have problems with their mental health today than 30 years ago. That’s probably because of changes in the way we live now and how that affects the experience of growing up.
Peer Support provides an effective layer of early intervention support for any student that may be experiencing difficulties with their Mental Health.
