📣 Good news - funding agreed for Washinghouse Brook path 📣

We are delighted to announce that funding has been agreed by Swansea Council to make huge improvements to the path running along Washinghouse Brook from Elmgrove Road to Wimblewood Close. We have been working behind the scenes for more than 18 months to get this project together and we could not be happier that it's got the go ahead.

Improvements will include:
↔️ Widening and levelling of the path and cut back of overgrowth
💦 Installation of better drainage features to prevent future flooding of the path
♿️ Wheelchair access via installation of a new ramp at West Cross Community Centre and accessible gate on Elmgrove Road

We have been approached by residents wanting to see these improvements who use the path for a variety of reasons and we know it will bring benefits to people from all over West Cross. This project will bring greater opportunity for residents to enjoy our green spaces and benefit from connecting with nature.

The majority of funding is from Swansea Council's Community Investment Fund, with contribution from our local community budget and Mumbles Community Council.

We're waiting to hear when work will start - watch this space! 🤩

Some great news for the beginning of the year 🚍 Better buses is something I'm passionate about and will keep working on.

❤️Welsh Labour are pledging a £2 cap on bus journeyed in Wales to lower costs in bus users

❤️Welsh Labour are also promising an expansion of bus routes so people will have more services running to more areas more regularly

This is all possible because of the decisions the current Labour Welsh Government has taken to introduce the Wales Bus Bill

❤️If you value it vote for it🗳️

The offer…

✅ £2 fares for all of Wales
✅ 100’s of new routes
✅ Real help for families
✅ Better bus connections for Swansea and Gower

📣 This is people-first politics.

Great news for families all over Swansea!

Great news for families all over Swansea!

All families in Swansea are now eligible for Flying Start funded childcare.

This allows parents and carers to access high quality childcare for two and three-year-olds for up to 12.5 hours per week during term time only.

Funded by Welsh Government and administered by Swansea Council, families can choose from a range of providers including school-based settings, private nurseries, cylchs and childminders.

Progress has already been made through a phased approach and now all eligible aged children regardless of where they live in Swansea can benefit from the initiative.

Swansea Council's Cabinet Member for Wellbeing, Alyson Anthony, said: "Flying Start childcare funding is there to give young children the best possible start in life.

"I would urge parents or carers to take advantage of the offer as it can make such a positive difference to children.

Swansea Council Leader Rob Stewart added: "No matter where you live in Swansea then all parents and carers can now apply for Flying Start childcare now that we have completed the roll-out.

"This is available at a range of settings and through both the medium of Welsh and English.

"We are very grateful to colleagues in Welsh Government for funding this initiative that will make a real difference to young children and their families."

Applications can be made using this online tool:

To enable road resurfacing, West Cross Avenue will be closed Monday-Friday next week, 9am-5pm. First Cymru have advised the 3A will be diverted to omit Norton Road and West Cross Avenue in both directions and divert via Mumbles Road to/from West Cross Lane.

Thank you for your patience as these essential works are completed. Works have been scheduled during half-term to minimise disruption as far as possible.

Lots of Halloween fun over the half-term holidays in West Cross. Here's one, from ALN-Connect - 11:30, 30th October at the Linden Centre.

ALN-Connect runs events for carers and children to break down the isolation that can arise with neurodiversity, caring for family with neurodiversity, and creates a supportive and nurturing environment where children are accepted and parents understand each other.

I absolutely love being part of this project - the volunteers are amazing, we save shedloads of food from going to landfill and we have a lovely time over a cup of tea (or squash in my case). Show them your support by choosing West Cross Caffi @ Baywood Community Centre as your local cause with Co-op.

🤩🥳 GOOD NEWS ALERT 🥳🤩

We've been chosen to be part of the Local Community Fund. Download the Co-op App, become a member and choose our cause, so we can receive a share of £5m. https://coopapp.onelink.me/ftOk/2r9h90ka

This funding will help us in our efforts to bring people together and reduce food waste. If you haven't been before, come along and see what we're all about. We're open in Baywood Community Centre, 10am-12pm every Thursday. ☕️
