A massive well done to a good mate Benni Mac who managed to get himself through the Hyrox Worlds in Chicago with one and a half knees. Ben has had rehab on and off for the past few years and more recently a hyaluronic acid injection around 4 weeks prior to competing for symptom relief which helped play a small part in him getting the job done. Well done mate 👏

Patient success story.. consent ✅

Bleddyn saw Luke at our Gowerton clinic with a sudden onset of severe back pain following squatting in the gym. After taking a thorough history and assessment, a suspected pars fracture was the clinical impression. This is essentially a stress induced fracture to an area of the spine.

Thanks to a great working relationship with Dr Mark Ridgewell we were able to arrange an urgent MRI scan which confirmed a pars fracture 🦴

If left untreated, pars # can become a cause of persistent pain but with this diagnosis, we can tailor rehab and get Bledd back to the gym/rugby ASAP.

**Disclaimer - Back pain is not always structural damage/harm and very rarely requires further imaging (MRI scan) but with this clinical history, the appropriate management was taken 🙌

🤔Hyaluronic Acid🤔

• What is OSTENIL® PLUS?

Solution containing hyaluronic acid developed specifically for the treatment of osteoarthritis.

•What is hyaluronic acid?

Hyaluronic acid is the most important part of synovial (joint) fluid. Main functions include:

1. Protects joint cartilage from wear and tear
2. Acts as a shock absorber, again protecting the cartilage
3. Lubricates the joint, helping it to work freely and easily
4. Allows nutrients reach the cartilage whilst simultaneously blocking harmful cells

In normal joints, there is a good balance between the breakdown of old hyaluronic acid and production of new. However, in osteoarthritis, its breakdown exceeds production, which leads to an imbalance and lack of hyaluronic acid.

• How does OSTENIL® PLUS work?

Works to restore the balance between the breakdown and production of hyaluronic acid. This can help decrease pain and stiffness of the joint.

OSTENIL® PLUS should be injected directly into the affected joint by a fully qualified clinician. It is unlikely you will notice any benefits straight away, but you should begin to feel a reduction in pain and stiffness over the following few weeks, which is likely to continue for several months.

When the effect of OSTENIL® PLUS begins to wear off, if considered appropriate by your clinician, you may safely choose to have another injection whenever necessary.

This is really exciting news for us as it allows us to offer a broader range of treatments for your pain 💯

It is important to note, not every patient would warrant a steroid injection. An initial assessment would be essential to ensure an injection is the best and most appropriate management of your pain.
