It’s been an emotional few months saying my goodbyes to the lovely Clients that I’ve seen every 6-8 weeks for the last 3 and a half years. Not to mention my lovely collegues who have become friends 🥲🥰😘.
Very grateful to have been an Associate at Crossroads Clinic for the last three and a half years. The people of Gorseinon, Loughor and surrounding areas have made me laugh, cry and given me the best hugs. A huge thank you. I’ve been juggling both Crossroads and my own clinics over this time, but now I will just be focusing on my own clinics to give me a little more flexibility. Thank you all 🤩

Last week we sadly waved goodbye to associate foot health Jacquie. Jacquie has been with us a number of years, she’s taking a little step back from clinic life, to concentrate on her thriving business APEX Foot & Skin , please look her up if you’re looking for any skin cancer screening, cryotherapy or some foot heath treatments including nail reconstruction! Jacquie hasn’t gone far and she can currently still be found on the first floor of the clinic on a Wednesday, along with other clinics throughout Swansea and Llanelli. People with dementia can sometimes start to wander. This might only be into the garden or street for a short time, but sometimes people get lost and go missing.

Carers, family or friends of a vulnerable person, or the person themselves, can fill in a form in advance, containing information to help the police if the person goes missing.

Keeping a completed form means you don’t have to try to remember the information when you are under stress if someone goes missing. And it saves time, so we can start the search sooner.

‼ The appearance of a new mole in adulthood is worthy of your special attention!

‼ Around 70% of melanoma arise as a new mole - they can be very small and are often dark / almost black in appearance. They can be as small as a pen tip! Therefore the ABCDE warning signs may be difficult to detect with the naked eye.

‼ Get to know your skin. Check it monthly - from top to toe and seek immediate medical advice with anything NEW, UNUSUAL or CHANGING!

🧴It's important to wear sunscreen at all times! When you are in the UK, abroad&even on cloudy days.
🌥️The sun's UV rays can pe*****te clouds&cause skin damage&sunburn.
⛱️Applying sunscreen with a high SPF&reapplying regularly, especially after swimming/sweating, is crucial.

If you have received a letter inviting you to an appointment with the diabetes prevention team, please book in as soon as possible.

The team is made up of specially trained dietetic support workers who provide a 30-minute intervention.

During that time, they will discuss topics such as physical activity, healthy eating and promote other lifestyle changes such as smoking cessation and alcohol reduction.

An increase in physical activity and having a healthy diet are just some of the steps you can take to help reduce the risk of developing diabetes.

The letter you receive will be from your GP practice on behalf of the diabetes prevention team. To book an appointment, please contact the diabetes prevention team directly. Their contact details will be available on your letter.

There are morning or afternoon clinics available at a number of locations across Swansea and Neath Port Talbot.

If you previously received a letter and didn’t make an appointment, it’s not too late to book in now.

This small lesion may look insignificant to the naked eye, however once removed and sent for histology it was confirmed as a Basal Cell Carcinoma . If you are in doubt, get your lesions checked out ASAP.

In-line with our Five S Rules of sun safety and skin cancer prevention, SKCIN have developed the Five S Signs of skin cancer early detection!

👀 Get to know your skin and every lump, bump, mole, freckle and mark. Check your skin thoroughly from top to toe every month for the following signs:

‼ #1: SIZE: An increase is size

‼ #2: SHAPE: Irregular or asymmetric in shape - may have blurred undefined borders

‼ #3: SHADES: Various shades of pigment / colour variations visible

‼ #4: SURFACE: Oozing, crusty, bleeding or inflamed

‼ #5: SENSATION: Itchy, tender or sore

‼ Be warned that any one of these signs could indicate a potential skin cancer - so if in doubt - get it checked out!
