Our book of the week 📚 An Introduction to the Therapeutic Frame by Anne Gray

This book offers a thoughtful, and practical guide to one of the most essential elements of psychotherapy. Gray explores the therapeutic frame not as a set of rigid rules, but as a living structure that supports safety, trust, and meaningful therapeutic work. Drawing on psychodynamic and relational perspectives, she explains how boundaries around time, space, roles, and ethics help contain both therapist and client, especially in moments of emotional intensity.

What makes this book particularly valuable is its accessibility. Gray writes in a calm, grounded jargon free style, using clinical examples to illustrate how disruptions to the frame can reveal important unconscious dynamics. She also addresses real-world complexities, such as flexibility, power, and the therapist’s own emotional responses, without oversimplifying them. Overall, this book is an excellent resource for trainees and experienced clinicians alike, offering a nuanced understanding of how a well-held therapeutic frame enables depth, repair, and transformation in clinical practice.

Our book of the week - In Love with Supervision, Creating transformative conversations by Robin Shohet and Joan Shohet

This book is a thoughtful, and deeply human exploration of what supervision can truly become when it is grounded in presence, curiosity, and relationship. The authors invite readers into a reflective conversation shaped by decades of experience in supervision, coaching, and psychotherapy.

What makes this book stand out is its emphasis on supervision as a relational process. Through examples, reflective questions, and gentle challenges, Shohet and Shohet encourage supervisors to stay open, emotionally attuned, and willing to be changed by the work themselves. The tone is generous and accessible, making complex ideas feel both practical and deeply personal.

The book is especially valuable for supervisors and practitioners who want to move beyond “doing supervision right” toward creating spaces where insight, learning, and transformation naturally emerge. In Love with Supervision feels less like a manual and more like wise companionship, reminding readers that supervision, at its best, is an act of care, courage, and connection.

Considering our Clients Through Creative Expression of Art and Masks CPD

Art has been a powerful tool for expression, healing, and transformation across cultures for centuries. Masks, in particular, have symbolised rites of passage, emotional and spiritual wellbeing. Today, these same tools can provide profound insights in therapy and practice.

Our upcoming training Considering our Clients Through Creative Expression of Art and Masks invites practitioners to explore what lies behind the mask, the hidden emotions, unmet needs, and authentic selves that clients may struggle to express with words. In therapy, “masking” often hides true feelings to gain acceptance, which can lead to anxiety, emotional exhaustion, and low self-worth. Children, especially, may wear emotional masks when fear of rejection prevents them from showing who they really are.

Through the use of colour, symbolism, and creative exploration, this course will help you:
💡 Deepen your understanding of the unconscious process
💡 Gain practical techniques to help clients release internal conflict
💡 Support clients in strengthening self-belief and reconnecting with their true identity

It's International Play Therapy Week!

“Play Therapy is based upon the fact that play is the child’s natural medium of self-expression. It is an opportunity which is given to the child to “play out” his feelings and problems just as, in certain types of adult therapy, an individual “talks out” his difficulties.” Virgina Axline, Play Therapy.

Wednesday evening, we held our final quarterly tutorial with our students who undertook our relational play and creative therapy with young people course.

This final quarterly tutorial marked more than the completion of a learning period. It reflected months of curiosity, courage, reflection, and deep engagement with young people. Through relational play and creative therapeutic practice, our students learned to listen beyond words, to stay present, to create safety, and to honour the unique stories each young person shared.

Our students showed creativity, empathy, and commitment, reflecting and growing both professionally and personally. The work they do matters. It creates space where young people can explore, express, and heal, and where relationships became the foundation for change.

Congratulations on completing your final quarterly tutorial. We are proud of you and excited to see how you continue to bring relational play and creative therapy into the lives of young people.

Well done and thank you for your commitment and dedication to this work.
