If you work in a safeguarding or helping role, employed or volunteering, you know how challenging it can be working with people who’ve been through really tough experiences.

As part of funding from WCVA we can offer employee counselling.

The sessions below are an introduction to counselling, gently challenging some of the common myths around it, and reflect on how it can support staff wellbeing at different points in their lives.

📣Be part of the collaboration in driving our mission for positive change. An evening of conversations, connections and building communities of hope as part of Wales Week / London

Returning for the fourth year, the Platfform team invites leaders and changemakers to join them aboard the Elizabethan on the River Thames to explore why community is a mental health intervention.

This event brings people together to connect, reflect and share how we can help our communities thrive and build hope for the future.

A big thank you to generous sponsors H.D.Adcock Nelson LTD, Everywhen and Ultra for their support!

On Thursday 12 February, online, we’re hosting an event where we’ll share evidence from the lived experience of diagnosis and treatment of Personality Disorder, and look at what needs to change.

The evidence is based on experiences shared with Platfform by 30 people, mostly women. The majority suffered traumatic experiences before diagnosis, as well as after.

These experiences are hard to listen to, and include instances where diagnosis masked trauma and imposed stigma, presenting barriers to recovery.

We recognise that people may have similar or differing experiences of this diagnosis. That’s why we want as many people as possible who care about the treatment and wellbeing of individuals experiencing mental health difficulties to join us.

Sign up to join the event here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/1980712276739?aff=oddtdtcreator

Platfform Wellbeing

Platfform has spent two years hearing real stories from people who have received this diagnosis. This new report shows what we found.

🙏For some people, having a safe, confidential space to talk can be helpful for getting to a place of acceptance.

😌Discussing how you are feeling, and why you’re feeling it, can lead to a better understanding of the things that add to and shape you.

👨🏿If you are thinking about trying counselling then we have a team of experienced therapists who work with you to help find ways to move forward that work for you.

🌳Our space, is conveniently situated right off the M4 in a quiet, private area with ample parking and just a 10 minute drive from the city centre.

“Staff remain in these roles because of a genuine commitment to the people we support,” explains Kirsty, who manages a team in one of our supported housing projects.

The team face challenging situations regularly, but they keep going. Because someone has to, and because the alternative is that people facing homelessness simply go without support.

The Housing Support Grant is what allows these services to exist at all, which is why it needs protecting and uplifting to match the real living wage - so that staff in these services can afford to stay in their posts.

Wishing you a peaceful time, however you are celebrating today.

It can be a difficult time for some people, feeling stressed, isolated, or uncertain of the future. If you can, reach out to people who may be struggling. Extend kindness to yourself too, you’re doing what you can.

If you’re facing a tough time, you can call the National Mental Health support line on 111-press 2, or the Samaritans 116 123.

“I didn’t feel the diagnosis was right but didn’t feel empowered to question this.”

The diagnosis of personality disorder can hide people’s experiences, and the distress that they are responding to. We’ve gathered people’s stories of receiving this diagnosis so that the truth behind the label can be heard.

Last year, homelessness in Wales reached record numbers, so more people needed the support of housing and homelessness services. Like Keith*, who was in temporary accommodation and facing mental health struggles when he was referred to us.

We helped him find somewhere more stable to live, to maintain a tenancy, and to start building a life connected to his new community. And we were on hand for mental health support every step of the way too.

The Housing Support Grant makes the work of our teams possible – and it needs to be protected and uplifted in line with inflation and the Real Living Wage.

If your life has been affected by these issues, or supported by these services, consider contacting your Senedd representative and asking them to prioritise the Housing Support Grant. You can find out how to do that, and read more about the HSG, in the comments 👇

We are Platfform

Platfform is the mental health and social change charity. We are a platform for connection, transformation and social change.

We have operated in Wales as Gofal for 30 years, as of 24 of July 2019 we are Platfform.

We work with people who are experiencing challenges with their mental health, and with communities who want to create a greater sense of connection, ownership and wellbeing in the places that they live.

We do not believe that people or communities are “broken” or in need of fixing. We are driven by the fundamental belief that a strengths-based approach is the foundation to sustainable wellbeing for everyone.
