We're thrilled to announce £125,000 support from The National Lottery Heritage Fund for our Learning from the Past: Giving to the Future Project, which will deliver £250,000 of hands-on training programmes in traditional crafts and skills that support sustainable construction and land management over 2 years.

Activities will include timber framing, cob walling, lime rendering, hedge laying, dry stone walling, and more!

We are looking for a Manufacturing Business Consultant!
(3 Month Fixed Term/Freelance Contract)
This is a fixed term appointment for a consultant to complete the work by 12 weeks from appointment.
Maximum budget £15,000

Down to Earth has ambitious plans to develop a community-led manufacturing facility to enable communities to be at the heart of creating homes and public infrastructure, at scale. Integrating the very best of MMC/OSM with people-centred processes and use of natural materials, the new facility will blend cutting edge technologies with empowering people to be at the heart of regeneration of our built and natural environments. Hot off the press: we now have FULL PLANNING APPROVAL! Find out more about the scheme here.

Building on the recently launched Welsh Government “Tai ar y Cyd - Pattern Book” of Social Housing, our new facility will enable communities to build panels for homes and other public infrastructure using home grown timber and natural materials.

The Manufacturing Business Consultant will undertake an intensive 3-month piece of work to further develop a 5-year business and operational plan of our new facility.

What an incredible day launching our new Building Community Project, funded by the Esmee Fairbairn Foundation.

It was amazing to have everyone at our site in Murton in the sunshine, and discuss our new project supporting community-led housing projects in Wales, as well as the Co-Design Toolkit and Community-led housing Guides, funded by The National Lottery Community Fund/ Cronfa Gymunedol y Loteri Genedlaethol

Huge thanks to everyone that came down, the level of enthusiasm was amazing, as well as the very in depth discussions throughout the day.

This project and the two resources have been the culmination of a huge amount of hard work over the last 18 months, so to see the project coming together was a real pleasure.

Over the next 18 months we will exploring the approach, and will be working with community groups to develop affordable housing schemes in their communities. We hope we are able use the skills and experience within Down to Earth to help decode the development process for non-professionals, and allow them to engage meaningfully and proactively in the shaping of their own environments. Some of this work has already started with several community groups, who we heard from on the day!
