I have to warn you - I have a zero-tolerance approach.
Homework is boring.
And I know when you haven't done it.
Usually, there are 101 other things you'd rather do.
I do understand that.
If you are recovering
from injury or illness (or will in the future) -
I want you to think of it as a team sport.
Your Team:
(it may have some or all of these members)
Your surgeon/doctor/consultant
GP
Nurses, nurse specialists
Physios, therapists, rehab specialists (like me)
and
YOU.
Of all the team members - YOU have to do most of the work.
You hold the key to getting better.
Everyone else plays their part;
diagnoses you,
treats you,
cares for you,
teaches you,
shows you what to do...
But ultimately - you have to do the homework.
And do you know what?
Most people don't.
After they are put in the best possible position for recovery,
from all that incredible medical learning and expertise -
people often just throw it all away.
They don't do their rehab exercises.
(And those are what make you better and stay pain-free).
Crazy really.
And yes, we know they are a bit repetitive, and they take a while - but they are the not-so-secret sauce to recovery.
They have been designed for you - and they work.
Your therapist/physio will absolutely know if you haven't done the homework.
Personally, I don't give second chances with this.
My patients will get better if they do what I ask.
If they won't do that - then my time is better spent with someone else.
No drama or hard feelings.
Alan did his homework.
He got better.
He's happily back in the gym again.
Be like Alan.
