✅ Minor head injuries
✅ Insect and animal and bites
✅ Minor eye injuries

Adults and children aged one year and older can be seen at an MIU.

There’s no need to book an appointment - just turn up during their opening hours:

📍 Paulton – 8am-8pm
📍 Chippenham – 8am-8pm
📍 Trowbridge – 8.30am-8pm
Last entry 7.30pm

If you’re not sure if an MIU is right for your injury, contact NHS 111.

Our Emergency Department is currently very busy, which may mean longer waits as we prioritise patients with the most critical and life-threatening conditions.

💬Hear from our Emergency Department Clinical Lead, Peter Dobinson, who has shared more about our current situation at the hospital.

If you need help, please consider using NHS 111 first, and continue to call 999 in an emergency.📞

💙 Public Health Talk: Supporting unpaid carers

Our first public health talk of 2026 is taking place virtually tomorrow, Wednesday 28 January, at 6:00pm.

Becoming an unpaid carer can happen suddenly or gradually and it can feel overwhelming, bringing unexpected changes to your daily life. Knowing where to find support can be challenging, and it's important that carers get the help they need.

That is why this talk, led by two colleagues from our organisation, will provide you with information on how we support unpaid carers, helping them to better care for the people who rely on them, as well as creating a safe space for unpaid carers to come together and share experiences.

📧If you'd like to join the talk, please email gwh.corporategovernance@nhs.net

Jessica woke up feeling unwell. 🤒

Nausea, stomach cramps - she knew something wasn’t right.

Instead of pushing through or visiting her loved one in hospital, Jessica stayed at home. She rested, drank plenty of fluids and gave her body time to recover. With no specific treatment for norovirus, this was the best way to let it run its course.

Norovirus spreads very easily, especially in hospitals. That’s why we ask everyone to stay away from hospitals and care settings for 48 hours after symptoms stop. And if you have any illness, including norovirus, coughs or colds, please don’t visit patients.

When people are well enough to visit, use the hand gel provided and wash your hands regularly with soap and water.

By staying home when unwell, Jessica helped protect patients, visitors and the staff caring for them every day. Thank you for doing the same. 💙

Give a little movement this winter to benefit your mental wellbeing.🏃‍♂️‍➡️

Being active is not only great for your physical health. Evidence also shows exercise is one of the most powerful tools for improving mental health, emotional stability, cognitive function and creativity.

Even a short 20-minute walk can lower cortisol levels and help you reset mentally after a tough day.

We are introducing new British Sign Language (BSL) QR codes around the hospital, which patients are able to scan to link directly to a BSL interpreter via their own, or one of our, mobile devices. 🤳

A virtual BSL interpreter can support deaf patients during planned or emergency visits to the hospital, and accessing the interpreter through a mobile device means that interpreting support will be in place much quicker.

The QR codes will be in the following areas: Main Atrium, Brunel Treatment Centre reception, Urgent Treatment Centre navigator, Emergency Department reception, Surgical Assessment unit reception, Medical Assessment unit reception, PALS reception and Delivery Suite.

We’ve recruited our 100th participant to a major global genetics study exploring new treatments for sepsis, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), influenza, Group A Strep and pancreatitis. 🔬

This is one of 117 active studies at the Trust, supported by our fantastic Research & Innovation team, who have also enrolled 156 new participants and launched eight new studies in recent months.

Leading the study at the Trust, Dr Malcolm Watters says:
“Reaching this milestone shows the commitment of our research teams and the willingness of our patients to get involved. I’m proud that together we’re helping to push forward discoveries that could change how we treat these life-threatening illnesses.”
