BoTree traditional mindfulness meditation

BoTree traditional mindfulness meditation One-to-one and group tuition in learning traditional mindfulness meditation, simply and effectively, at a location of your choice. Simon @ BoTree

I have practised meditation for over 30 years, and began teaching 8 years ago. I started learning traditional meditations 25 years ago. After completing several mindfulness and teaching courses, I began teaching, privately and in the NHS, about 8 years ago. I practice mindfulness meditation because it has never failed to be of benefit me, in so many ways. And as it includes a variety of different practices, it can be done pretty much anywhere, at any time. I find teaching meditation to be enjoyable and rewarding - it is great to hear clients feeding back on the positive changes they have noticed in their lives, often after only a couple of weeks practice.

Instead of giving answers, I ask, “What brings you here? What does your heart need?” And the room becomes wise. ☯️

Regular meditation reduces over-thinking, ruminating, worrying, catastrophising.

These are common mental habits which are unhelpful and unpleasant - and often linked with feeling depressed or anxious.

Learning to meditate also helps to reduce the likelihood of such habits developing in the first place.

As humans, we have a tendency to focus on the stuff that annoys us, that ticks us off. We tend to think more about that which scares us that that which supports or nourishes us.

This is called the “Human Negativity Bias”, part of our self-protective evolutionary inheritance which is great when we face an actual physical threat, but less so as we navigate our thought processes and how we perceive life.

This negativity bias can also affect how we relate to other people in life. Ask yourself this question:

“If I speak to 10 people in a day and 9 are perfectly fine but 1 is rude, who do I tell people about later?”

Chances are you noted, with a rueful smile, tht it is the one rude person you focus on.

Today’s quote is just a little nudge to help us be mindful of where we put our energies in relation to other people. Try not to dwell on getting even with those who we perceive as having wronged us, but instead be aware of and grateful to those in life who help and support us. This can be friends, families, partners, kids, colleagues, or even that stranger who alerts us to the fact we have dropped something.

Notice kindness, be kind!

You don’t need a certification to be a teacher.
You don’t need a stage, or a script, or the “perfect” practice.

Sometimes the most powerful way we teach is by how we live:
🌿 How we breathe through tension
🌿 How we pause before reacting
🌿 How we show up — gently, consistently, with care

When you live with presence, people feel it.
They may not call it mindfulness.
But they’ll notice your energy.
They’ll feel your steadiness.
And they might just soften because you softened first.

💬 If you’d like a few extra small ways I personally weave mindfulness into my day and my teaching — the simple, grounded practices that have stayed with me through the years —
comment “TEACH” and I’ll DM them to you.

Prostrating is a bit like doing simultaneous yoga and meditation - very good for the body, energy ('speech') and mind.

If you don't identify with Buddhism, no problem - prostrate to a god, God, Jesus, Allah, Mother Earth, a saint, a wise person, you choose.

Posture is the key to being able to sit and meditate effectively.

In my experience, most articles (and many teachers) do not appreciate this - causing many people to give up, believing incorrectly that meditation is 'difficult' or 'does not work' or that they 'can't do it'.

The stock photo in this article demonstrates how not to sit for meditation!

Simply sitting well, even when not meditating, is profoundly calming to the mind and nourishing for the body.

There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to finding the best meditation posture and seating arrangement for you—it takes time to familiarize yourself with your body and what it needs.
