Four specialist teams. One shared goal. Outstanding multidisciplinary care. 🐾

Logan, a 5‑year‑old Cockerdor, was referred to our Neurology team after developing progressive pain around his back end, which eventually caused him to yelp spontaneously even when touched. He also became very lame on one of his forelimbs, leaving his family understandably worried.

A CT scan was performed that revealed he had a large abscess deep within his pelvic canal. His forelimb lameness was caused by secondary spread of infection to his elbow joint. He also had signs of infection spread to his vertebrae and spinal cord.

Logan underwent complex surgery to drain and thoroughly flush the abscess using two approaches-one from above and one through his abdomen. Drains were placed to aid recovery, and the infection within his elbow joint was also drained. He then began a long course of antibiotics to target the infection.

Logan spent several days in hospital under the care of our dedicated teams. Thanks to
teams, Logan received the full benefits of the multidisciplinary care we’re proud to provide here at Eastcott.

We’re delighted to share that Logan has made a full recovery and is now back to his cheerful, tail‑wagging self

Diabetic cataracts 👁️🐶
Did you know that up to 80% of dogs with diabetes will develop cataracts?
These cataracts can form very quickly—sometimes within days—leading to sudden blindness. As they develop, they can leak proteins that trigger painful inflammation inside the eye (called lens-induced uveitis), and may even lead to glaucoma if left untreated.
A common myth is that diabetes must be fully stable before eye treatment can be considered. In reality, delaying referral can mean the eyes become inoperable, and some dogs may be left in ongoing discomfort or pain.
At Eastcott Referrals , our ophthalmology team recommends early assessment. Working alongside our specialist anaesthesia team who prepare an individual anaesthesia plan for each patient, we can often act quickly to relieve pain and, in many cases, restore vision
If your diabetic dog shows signs of vision changes, don’t wait—early intervention can make all the difference.

We want introduce you to the amazing Maisie... Maisie was presented to Eastcott due to cancer of her mouth which had spread toward her nose.

We know, at Eastcott, how emotive a serious diagnosis such as cancer is and the understandable impacts this can have on our patients and their owners. Its our jobs to help owners make the best decisions for them and their charges and support them through the process of their care.

Happily, we are able to celebrate Maisie's ongoing recovery and at present her cancer is in full remission. This photo shows that despite the physical challenges associated with major surgery our patients' bravery and personality shine through!

The love and care Maisie has received from her owner during her surgical recovery is inspirring, this is definitely a team effort, and we are proud to be a part in keeping the special bond between them.

The beautiful Dotty comes this week for a cardiac screening for Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM)
DCM is a heart disease that affects the heart’s ability to pump blood efficiently. It’s most commonly seen in dog breeds such as Dobermans, Boxers, Great Danes, Irish Wolfhounds, and Cocker Spaniels.
Early symptoms can be subtle, so it’s important at home, look for signs like:
• Coughing
• Reduced exercise tolerance
• Rapid or laboured breathing
• Fainting or weakness
• Loss of appetite or weight loss
If you notice any of these signs in your dog, especially if they belong to one of the breeds above, reach out to your veterinarian promptly. Early detection and management can make a big difference!

Beau, a 7-year-old German Shepherd, was referred to Eastcott in June 2025 for a slow-growing occipital skull mass. CT and biopsy confirmed an invasive (MLO).
After consulting with Tom Shaw (Head of Neurology and Neurosurgery), his owners chose curative-intent surgery for complete excision with clean margins, rather than palliative debulking, to reduce recurrence risk. Surgery was carefully planned with multiplanar CT images to avoid critical structures.
The mass and occipital bone margins were successfully removed en-bloc with wide margins. Beau recovered well, was discharged two days later, and returned to normal activities within a month.
Beau’s owner recently told us he remained well with no signs of mass regrowth. MLOs have a high rate of local recurrence, but we are hopeful that excision with wide margins will reduce the risk significantly. Beau exemplifies the benefit of a radical approach to cranial oncological surgery.

🌱💚 A greener step forward for veterinary care 💚🌱
At Eastcott, we’re proud to introduce VET-Dock, a waste anaesthetic gas capture system now in use at our hospital.
By safely capturing waste anaesthetic gases in these compact canisters, VET-Dock helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions while also creating a safer environment for our team and patients. 🌍🐾
This initiative perfectly aligns with our Green Planet values and our ongoing commitment to sustainable, responsible veterinary care.
Small changes really can make a big difference—and we’re excited to be part of a cleaner, safer future for veterinary medicine. ✨🐶🐱
