Renew Hi everyone. Do you have spare time? Do you like meeting people. Why not come along and join us? We are a member of the UK Men's Shed Association.

Since 2017, we have focused on men's well-being through our men's shed sessions, but we're here to encourage everyone from all parts of the community to learn and share skills in a lively, friendly atmosphere. Our 'shed' is a place to have fun, share or learn skills and knowledge with like-minded people and gain a renewed sense of purpose and belonging by working on projects for the community. We love renewing, repairing and re-using materials which would otherwise go to landfill. Renew is also an Official Stockist of Frenchic Paint®', an award-winning and eco-friendly range of chalk and mineral paint, It has no added VOC's, toxins or solvents and had virtually no smell. Do order, please visit our website www.renewswindon.org.uk, or pop into our centre (please ring first to check times). We can also offer local delivery. All profits go towards keeping us going! We are open for woodwork sessions on a Tuesday from 10 - 4p and Thursdays from 10am - 1pm. On Thursday afternoons we run furniture upcycling sessions from 1.30pm - 4pm. There will also be the opportunity of some one-off upcycling and woodwork workshops for the general public so that everyone can get involved in helping with the community projects whilst learning or sharing a skill at the same time. In the next few months, the plan will be to offer some ideas on how to cook delicious dishes using surplus food as well as a Christians Against Poverty Life Skills course. 🛠 Building DIY confidence and skills course.

If you would like to get your DIY on, the Tenant Academy, in partnership with Adult Community Learning and Renew are running courses covering a range of topics to help you with home improvements.

The DIY course consists of six sessions where you will learn:
• woodwork – making a picture frame
• preparing walls to paint and wallpaper
• how to paint and wallpaper
• hanging picture frames, shelves and curtain rails
• repairing cupboard doors and hinges
• repairing minor cracks and holes in a wall
• changing a toilet seat
• plumbing – looking at causes of a leaky tap, how to unblock your sink and general household plumbing

Can you help?

We are in need of donations of seeds and plants for our kitchen community garden, ready to start our gardening club again (or somewhere that sells them cheaply for another charity).

We would particularly like chitted potatoes, tomato, courgette, cucumber and squash plants, runner beans seeds or plants, herbs and some manure.

Our Story

Renew is now an unincorporated Assn (like many of the other men in sheds around the country) and has been set up with the aid of many generous donations including tools, equipment and time enabling us to continue encouraging people from all walks of life and parts of the community to have a good time together and share skills in a lively, friendly atmosphere. We are now beginning the process of registration with the Charity Commission so hope to be a registered charity later in the year!

For a long time research has shown the negative impact of loneliness and isolation on a person’s health and wellbeing. It is not the case for all men, but for some, when retirement comes, it can feel like personal identity and purpose is lost.

Renew is a member of the UK Men’s Sheds Association. Our ‘Shed’ is about having fun, sharing skills and knowledge with like-minded people and gaining a renewed sense of purpose and belonging.
