Plaque that builds up on your teeth can be transparent in colour, which makes it impossible to see. Disclosing tablets or solution is the best visual aid you can introduce into your cleaning regime at home.
It is suitable for adults and children to use.
This food colouring agent stains the plaque in a blue/pink/green colour to highlight areas you’re missing during cleaning.
I would definitely recommend using this product on a daily or weekly basis to eliminate complacency and to provide you with a visual indicator of where you need to be cleaning 😁

This is an magical toothpaste by Colgate for kids, to make sure they are brushing for the correct time. Starts off a transparent glittering colour, as you brush the colour becomes different blues until all the glitter has disappeared and it’s a deep blue. I tested the toothpaste and it is 2 minutes 😊. It’s a mild mint that tastes nice but not too spicy. Can be purchased at savers, Sainsbury’s, Amazon, boots and Tesco 👍🏻

I had a lovely time visiting preschool and reception this week. We learnt all about a visit to the dentist, how to look after our teeth and what is a healthy and unhealthy snacks. It is 100% worth investing into a good electric toothbrush. It’s something you use everyday, hopefully twice a day in your mouth. This is my absolutely favourite toothbrush. I honestly can’t rate it enough and at a bargain of the price from boots.
Some of it’s amazing properties include:
It has 2 light sensors to tell you when you’re brushing too hard and another to tell you when you’re not brushing hard enough.
A lithium battery so keeps its charge longer.
Plus artificial intelligence to track your toothbrush techniques so you never miss a spot.
Go on your teeth are worth the investment 🦷

Brushing with Braces:

Cleaning with a brace on is so important.
Firstly if you don’t keep the teeth clean the orthodontist have been known to remove the brace.
Secondly what’s the point of having lovely straight teeth if their full of holes where you’ve neglected to clean and decay has set in??
It can be so difficult to keep your brace clean so here’s some helpful tips.

*Use an Electric toothbrush. It makes life so much easier when you don’t have to focus on how you’re brush but just let the toothbrush head do the work as you guide the toothbrush from on tooth to the next. Focus on one tooth at a time and making sure you include the gum line.

*Oral B have toothbrush heads specifically designed for braces. You can get them from places like Amazon and boots. Each brush head should be changed 8-12 weeks.

*For in between the brackets, use a tepe interdental brush to brush the wire. Use a gentle up and down motion around 8-10 times. Toothpaste is optional. Tepe size can vary but mixed size tepe bags can be bought. Tepe brushes can be use for up to 2 weeks.

* A small silicone tepe brush for in between the teeth where the teeth meet in a v shape. You want to do 8-10 strokes at least 2 x a day.
Once again tepe size may vary.
Each brush can be use for up to 2 weeks and have a low carbon footprint so economical and eco friendly.

* At the top of the teeth use a flossette to glide down the contact of the teeth until you reach a resistant and can’t go any further. Then just glide the floss back up.
Flossette can be used for up to 2 weeks. I found the best ones in savers, they come in a big bag, have a satin floss so glides between the teeth easily and cost £1.50 👍🏻
You can just use a regular satin floss or tape but I find the flossette give the best and easiest control.

* It is highly recommended to have a professional clean and review of your cleaning by a Hygienist/Dentist 2-3 a year to help remove any plaque/tartar or Staining that may get caught around the brace, causing tooth decay or gum disease.

Toothbrush tips for children age 3-7

* Brushing should be done twice a day, recommend for 2 minutes but I would encourage as long as you can for smaller children and use a timer to help encourage older children.

*Use a pea size amount of children’s MINT toothpaste. Biggest complaint I get from parents is that their children doesn’t like minty toothpaste. This is because they are used to the sweet flavoured toothpaste. So get them onto mint toothpaste ASAP.

* Encourage independent brushing in the mirror.

* Get your child to lay down on the bed or floor so you have a good view and better control.
Make a game of brushing by asking them what colour teeth they’d like you to brush their teeth.
Ask them to open wide like a lion so you can reach the back or their biggest smile so you can brush the fronts.

* Using a circular motion move from one tooth at a time covering the gum line and each of the tooth surfaces. Pay particular attention to the backs of the teeth and fissure surfaces where it is difficult to reach.

* I always encourage an electric toothbrush from the age of 3. It is worthwhile investing into a good brush as they use it everyday, 2 x a day and it’s the best way to help clean. I usually recommend oral b pro 4000 or genius. They come with a timer and you can alter the settings to a sensitive mode.

* When finished brushing encourage your child to spit out the excess toothpaste in the sink

* No rinsing after brushing you want to keep the toothpaste on the teeth.

A huge Question I get asked, “how best to brush my babies teeth?” This is my eldest child when he was under a year old.
We started brushing with a baby silicone toothbrush.
I laid him on the floor between my legs so I had control of him rolling around.
I allowed him to play with the brush by chewing the brush end and then gently started to help move the brush around his teeth and gums in a small circularating action.
This will help your baby to recognise the tooth brushing action, it helps the gums exfoliate, so soothing teething and gets them used to you helping with their brushing techniques 🥰🦷🪥
