““Aʀᴇ ᴍʏ ᴠᴇɪɴꜱ ᴛʜᴇ ᴡᴏʀꜱᴛ ʏᴏᴜ’ᴠᴇ ꜱᴇᴇɴ?”
We hear this all the time. The honest answer: 𝗡𝗢!

Veins come in levels, a bit like a school grading system. Doctors call it 𝗖𝗘𝗔𝗣, but here’s the simple version:

𝗟𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝟭 – Tiny thread veins
Small red or blue lines on the skin.
𝗟𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝟮 – Varicose veins
Lumpy, bulging veins that you can see and feel.
𝗟𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝟯 – Swollen legs
The veins aren’t working well, so the leg holds extra fluid.
𝗟𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝟰 – Skin changes
Brown patches, dryness, or eczema around the ankle.
𝗟𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝟱 – Healed ulcer
The skin once broke down but has healed.
𝗟𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝟲 – Active ulcer
The skin is open and needs treatment.

Most people who worry they are “the worst” are usually Level 2 or 3. Both very common and very treatable.

Your veins are never too bad, and they are never too mild to be checked.

If you’d like to know your level, we can tell you in one visit.

𝐋𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐫 𝐯𝐬 𝐑𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐨𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐕𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐕𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐬 – 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐃𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞?

Many people ask whether laser or radiofrequency is “better” for treating varicose veins. The truth is simple: 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴‑𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝗺𝗲. Large studies, including the CLASS trial from the UK, have shown 𝗻𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲.

But there is one short‑term difference worth knowing:

𝗥𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗼𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝘂𝘀𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘁‑𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗿𝘂𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗳𝗲𝘄 𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀.

Laser and radiofrequency both close the vein effectively, but radiofrequency tends to feel gentler during recovery.

And here’s the most important point:

𝗔 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝘃𝗲𝗶𝗻 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗼𝗻 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗲.
Every patient’s veins are different. The best results come from choosing the right tool for the right vein.

At 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗩𝗲𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗰, we use 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗻 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀: laser, radiofrequency, foam, mechano-chemical, and more. We are the only clinic in 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝘁𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗲, 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝘂𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗕𝗲𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗲 offering the full range. That means we don’t have to “sell” one treatment over another. We simply offer the 𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂.

If you want honest advice and consultant‑led care, we’re here to help.

Hᴏᴡ Hᴏᴍᴇ‑Cᴏᴏᴋᴇᴅ Mᴇᴀʟꜱ Cᴀɴ Hᴇʟᴘ Kᴇᴇᴘ Yᴏᴜʀ Bʀᴀɪɴ Hᴇᴀʟᴛʜʏ 🧠🍽️

Did you know that cooking at home could help protect your brain as you get older? New research shows that even one home‑cooked meal a week may help lower the risk of memory problems and dementia.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗦𝗮𝘆𝘀
A study published in Frontiers in Nutrition found that people who cook and eat meals at home tend to have better brain health. The researchers noticed that these people showed stronger thinking skills and fewer signs of dementia. One reason may be that home‑cooked meals usually include healthier foods like fresh vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins instead of processed foods.

Another study from Rush University Medical Center looked at eating habits and brain health. Their research showed that diets full of fruits, vegetables, and healthy fats, foods often found in home‑cooked meals, were linked to a lower risk of Alzheimer’s disease. People who ate healthier foods also experienced slower memory loss over time.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗼𝗺 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗲
Cooking just one healthy meal at home each week can make a real difference for your brain. Research continues to show that what we eat matters, and small changes can add up over time. Whether it’s a homemade soup or a fresh salad, your brain will thank you.

A healthy lunch at the college!

Feeling genuinely honoured to be in London today at the Royal College of Surgeons, contributing to the question‑writing process for future surgical trainees. It’s a privilege to play a small part in shaping the standards and assessments that will guide the next generation of surgeons. Grateful for the opportunity and the trust placed in me.

Interestingly, these exams are called “diets” which may also cover the healthy working lunch I’ve been given!

𝐂𝐫𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐋𝐨𝐭 𝐈𝐬 𝐆𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐘𝐨𝐮, 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲

While it might be perceived as a sign of weakness, crying can actually have profound benefits for our mental and emotional health. Research indicates that letting the tears flow can lead to numerous positive outcomes:

1. 𝐄𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐑𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞: Crying helps us release pent-up emotions, acting as a natural stress reliever. According to a study published in the journal 𝐄𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, participants reported feeling lighter and more relieved after crying, underscoring its role in emotional regulation.

2. 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐞𝐭𝐨𝐱: Tears contain stress hormones and toxins. The act of crying helps flush out these substances from our body, leading to a potential decrease in stress levels. A study from the 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐉𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐄𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 highlighted that emotional tears can help balance emotional health and improve mood.

3. 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐎𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬: Crying can foster empathy and strengthen relationships. Research from the University of Louisiana found that witnessing someone cry can make others feel more connected and willing to offer support, ultimately enhancing social bonds.

4. 𝐏𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐑𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐟: Tears release endorphins, which are natural painkillers. A study from the 𝐉𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 & 𝐌𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐞 found that crying can lead to a reduced perception of pain, helping individuals feel better not only emotionally but physically as well.

5. 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐌𝐨𝐨𝐝: After a good cry, many people experience a sense of relief and rejuvenation. This cathartic effect can lead to a clearer mind and readiness to tackle life's challenges.

So the next time you feel the urge to cry, remember that it's not just okay, it's beneficial! Embrace your tears; they may just be the healthy outlet you need.

If you have varicose veins, you may be at risk of phlebitis, which is inflammation of a vein. It can cause pain, redness, swelling, and tenderness, usually in the leg.

How is phlebitis treated?
Treatment often includes resting with your leg raised, using cold packs, wearing compression stockings, and taking pain relief. If phlebitis is suspected, it’s important to see a healthcare professional. You may need a scan, and in some cases blood thinners, to reduce the risk of a more serious clot.

Why treat varicose veins?
If the varicose veins are not treated, phlebitis can come back. Repeat attacks increase the risk of serious problems like deep vein thrombosis (DVT), ongoing pain, swelling, and skin damage.

The bottom line
If you’ve had phlebitis and have varicose veins, don’t ignore it. Treating the veins can help prevent future attacks and protect your long-term health.

You don’t have to live with pain or worry. Get in touch to talk about safe, effective treatment options.
