♦️ Featured Speaker of the Week ♦️

This week at BNI Read (West Swindon), our 10-minute Featured Speaker is Nicki Kinton MCICM (Grad) from Confident Cashflow.

Nicki will be sharing insight into how getting paid on time, consistently, gives business owners the freedom to plan, grow and make confident decisions.

Confident Cashflow supports small business owners who are generating revenue but still feeling financially uncertain month to month. Nicki focuses on the practical processes that get money flowing through a business properly, from setting the right expectations with clients at the start, to making sure invoices are followed up consistently and professionally.

With the emotional burden of chasing payment lifted, her clients find they can think more clearly, plan ahead with confidence, say yes to the right opportunities, and focus on the parts of the business they're actually good at.

Nicki is looking to connect with:
• Business owners and managing directors
• Trades and construction businesses
• Professional service firms
• Bookkeepers and accountants
• Growth-focused SMEs who want to stop firefighting and start planning

BNI meetings are structured, focused and designed to build strong relationships that lead to trusted, high-quality referrals. If you are serious about strengthening your network, building strategic partnerships and growing your business through recommendation, this is an excellent opportunity to see BNI in action.

♦️ A Glowing Testimonial at BNI Read ♦️

This week at BNI Read West Swindon, Hayriye Mazzotta from SmartPA shared a powerful testimonial for Grace Brown and the team at RiverView Portfolio.

And it perfectly captures what proactive accounting should look like.

Since the start of her first full financial year, during a period of rapid business growth, Hayriye has relied on Grace’s strategic support to navigate every step with confidence.

Quarterly forecasting.
Clear forward planning.
No surprises.

But the real value? Strategic thinking in action.

When Hayriye was preparing to order a new car, Grace didn’t just process the numbers. She became part of the decision-making process. By reviewing the figures properly and cutting through the hearsay, Grace helped her make the most tax-efficient choice — ultimately saving around £5,000.

That is not reactive accounting.
That is added value.

Hayriye described her meetings with Grace as feeling more like coffee with a trusted friend than formal forecasting sessions. Open conversations. Honest advice. Strategic guidance.

And perhaps the best line of all:

“It’s important to have a good accountant tucked away in your pocket.”

At BNI Read, this is exactly what we mean by building trusted relationships that drive real results.

If you are a business owner who values proactive thinking over year-end surprises, Grace Brown at RiverView Portfolio is someone worth knowing.

♦️ Accountability ♦️

BNI is built on the principle that results follow responsibility.

Accountability is not about pressure or blame. It is about owning your commitments and understanding that your actions directly influence the strength of the chapter.

From an official BNI perspective, Accountability ensures that standards remain high and trust remains strong. When members do what they say they will do, referrals carry greater weight, credibility increases and relationships mature faster.

Accountability shows up in clear and practical ways:
♦️ Turning up consistently and on time
♦️ Following through on promised introductions
♦️ Preparing properly for your weekly presentation
♦️ Tracking and reporting referrals and thank you for closed business accurately

In networking, reliability is currency. A referral is not just a name passed across the room. It represents your reputation. When members follow through professionally and promptly, it reflects positively on the entire chapter.

BNI encourages members to take ownership of their role in the group’s performance. Accountability creates predictability. Predictability builds trust. Trust drives referrals.

It is disciplined.
It is professional.
And it directly impacts growth.

Own your commitments and the results will follow.

♦️ 10-Minute Presentation Spotlight ♦️

This morning at BNI Read West Swindon, Grace Brown of RiverView Portfolio – Your Added Value Accountants delivered a focused and refreshing presentation on what modern accountancy should really look like.

Her key message was simple and powerful.
RiverView Portfolio is proactive, not reactive.

Grace explained that too many businesses only hear from their accountant once a year when it is time to file accounts. Her approach is different. She and her team work alongside SMEs and property investors throughout the year, providing strategic tax planning and forward-thinking financial advice.

For business owners and property investors with portfolios of five or more properties, that proactive mindset can mean the difference between simply staying compliant and building structured, tax-efficient growth.

This is not about ticking boxes. It is about planning ahead. It is about protecting and strengthening long-term wealth.

Grace demonstrated how RiverView Portfolio supports clients with strategic conversations, smarter structuring and ongoing insight that allows them to make confident financial decisions.

Sessions like this are exactly why we value members taking the stage. The clearer we are on someone’s ideal client and strategic edge, the more powerful and qualified our referrals become.

Another strong contribution to an energised and focused BNI Read meeting.

🎤 10-Minute Featured Speaker
This week we heard from Grace Brown of RiverView Portfolio Ltd – Your Added Value Accountants.

Grace gave us a brilliant insight not only into her role at RiverView, but also into her world beyond the spreadsheets. From her love of horses and horse racing 🐎 to the journey from trainee accounts assistant to client portfolio manager at RiverView Portfolio in 10 years, it was great to see the person behind the profession.

Grace explained how RiverView Portfolio supports:
▪️ Growing SMEs
▪️ Established business owners
▪️ Property investors with portfolios of 5+ properties

Her focus is strategic tax planning and investment advice, not just year-end compliance. This is about long-term structure, smarter decision-making and protecting wealth.

Understanding her ideal client more clearly means we can now introduce her to better qualified referrals. And that is exactly how BNI should work.

10/02/2026

I’m genuinely so chuffed to share that I’ve been shortlisted for two awards at the South West Business & Community Awards 🤩🥳

The last few months have been the busiest I’ve had since starting Giddy Octopus — so showing up online hasn’t been my top priority.

But behind the scenes… so much has been happening. And this recognition felt like the perfect place to start sharing again.

When I applied for the awards, it gave me a rare chance to pause and really reflect — not just on the last year, but on the whole journey since I started Giddy Octopus back in June 2024.

I felt so proud of everything we have achieved.

Going through the nomination process made me realise something — being authentic, bold, approachable and (sometimes painfully) resilient is exactly what has got me to where I am today.

Those values are what helped me start the conversations, show up to the events and say yes to the opportunities that eventually turned into real relationships and real clients.

My goal has never been to just be a freelance designer.

I’m building a creative agency that:
• has supported 48 customers, of all shapes and sizes, to date
• actively supports local and small businesses, and prioritises female-owned businesses wherever possible
• collaborates with brilliant, local creatives – from illustrators, web developers, marketers, copywriters, videographers and photographers
• hosts workshops and work experience for creative and SEND students
• supports charities – something that really matters to me. After being made redundant I had to cancel my monthly donations, but in 2025 I was proud to sponsor and fundraise for two charities… and I don’t plan on stopping 🙏🏻

My business is focussed on growth, community and purpose.

Finding out I’d been shortlisted for two categories genuinely meant a lot — especially alongside such an inspiring and high-calibre group of individuals and businesses.

Thank you to every client, collaborator, partner and member of my wider network who has supported me so far.

I’ll keep you posted on how I get on at the awards ✨💃🏼

♦️ National Networking Week at BNI Read ♦️

What a brilliant session as we celebrated National Networking Week together.

We welcomed 4 new and 4 return visitors into the room, bringing great energy, fresh conversations and plenty of new connections. A huge congratulations to our visitor Bruno, estate agent at Bricks by Bruno, who won our £50 Amazon gift voucher in the prize draw.

The meeting showcased exactly what makes BNI work so well.

✔️ Fast-paced speed 1:1s
✔️ Clear and focused 60-second member and visitor rounds
✔️ Real opportunities to understand who we can help and how

We also heard an inspiring talk from Sheldon Thellis, who reminded us just how powerful referral networking can be when you follow the proven BNI referral framework consistently and with intent.

A great reminder that strong relationships, clarity and trust are what turn conversations into confident referrals.

Thanks to everyone who visited and to all our members for making it such a strong session. 👏

♦️ Traditions and Innovations ♦️

BNI is built on a framework of proven traditions.

♦️ The structure of the meeting.
♦️ The weekly commitment.
♦️ The referral process that keeps businesses accountable and focused.

These traditions create consistency, clarity and trust. They ensure that every member knows what to expect and how to contribute effectively. From an official BNI perspective, this structure is what allows relationships and referrals to develop in a meaningful and sustainable way.

But BNI also recognises that business does not stand still.

Traditions and Innovations is about respecting what works while remaining open to improvement. Members are encouraged to adapt, refine and evolve how they present their businesses, use technology and respond to changing markets, all within the strength of the BNI system.

Innovation is not about abandoning the framework.

It is about strengthening it.

By combining established systems with fresh thinking, BNI enables its members to remain relevant, competitive and forward-focused. This balance ensures that the network continues to support real business growth, both now and in the future.

Strong foundations.
Progressive mindset.

That is the power of Traditions and Innovations.
