Not all my mugs look like this!
These are my special ones, Sunday morning pots of tea and toast ones. Afternoon pots of coffee. Mugs that have been given as presents that mean a lot to me and remind me of that person when I’m having a brew.

Which brings me to the reason of this post. Today is Brew Monday!

A day to make a cuppa and have a chat with someone. This time of year many people feel the winter blues. The weather is rubbish, it’s cold, Christmas is done with and this year we are not able to meet up and chat and offload with friends like we normally would.
So change perspective, look at things differently and make it work for you. Arrange a Zoom, WhatsApp, messenger or phone call and have a tea break with a friend.
Change someones day for the better!

I had a great early morning bike ride yesterday. I love getting out on my bike and seeing all the beautiful places that I normally drive by and do not notice are there.

Life can be really busy.

Which makes it all the more important to take time to do the things that make you feel good!
When I get home I don’t feel tired but energised, happy and ready to start the day. Cycling gives us dopamine, serotonin and endorphins, improves our mood and can reduce stress, anxiety and depression.
If you are not enjoying the things that used to make you feel good make a conscious effort to start doing them again.

What a wonderful and kind surprise!

YOU CAN'T CONTROL THE WAVES BUT YOU CAN LEARN TO SURF....... and over the next few days we will all be changing the way we surf too!

Okay, so I wouldn't suggest surfing near these rocks but I like the picture! It was taken a couple of years ago on holiday and when I see it I can still hear the sound of children laughing, I can smell the air and feel the warmth of the sun, it makes me feel good and lifts my spirits every time I see it.

We are not able to control what is happening at the moment but WE CAN change the way we think and do things, by doing this we feel more in control of the situation, especially now, when the things we can do are changing again. We may feel unsure or worried about meeting more people on the streets etc and this is natural, we are wise to be cautious but do it in a way that you feel safe, aware and in control.
If you know you are doing everything you can, intellectually you will feel calmer.
I appreciate that the following things have been suggested a lot but sometimes we forget so.....

At the moment we need things that make us feel good, so looking at feel good photos, sorting stuff out, listening to CD's or vinyl records ( crackles and all), reading, learning a new craft or language and keeping in contact with people are all positive ways to pass the time.
If you are able to go outside to exercise say hello to the people you see, it's nice to be noticed and especially at the moment, it is important to feel connected to the people around you.
I can imagine if you are a key worker you will be rolling your eyes because unlike a lot of people you do not have all this free time are and you are tired or stressed, if so, try and find a small thing every day that has made you feel good and also try and DO something small every day that gives you time to yourself, a bath, sitting in the garden, a phone call with a friend or just taking a moment to do some breathing exercises, just find time for you.
How we live now is the normal for now, in a few weeks when things change again it will become normal, accept it and don't think about the things that cannot be done, again, ACCEPT IT, for then the surfing will be easier!

SMILE! Even if you don’t feel like it, smile. When we smile the brain releases endorphins, dopamine and serotonin, this in turn can calm your nervous system, lowering heart rate and blood pressure.

Also, people around you will benefit as a smile makes us feel better and included, so SMILE at people. This morning I noticed as I walked my dog that more people were saying good morning and smiling, I think we are entering that “ we are all in this together and we need to pull together” phase, a smile conveys this!

What does a picture of a muddy hypnotherapist have to do with feeling good?

Last week my sons, husband and I helped a couple who were stuck in the mud in their car. I ended up covered with mud but laughing my head off, I knew I looked a sight from everybody's horrified faces (which quickly changed to laughter!) The couple could not understand why I was laughing and not annoyed but it felt good helping someone who was stuck, it was a bit of an adventure and I kept smiling about it all day.

A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to attend a talk by Dr David Hamilton about the effect that kindness has on the brain. When we show someone a kindness we release oxytocin, also known as the hugging hormone, we can feel happier, less stressed and it can help lower our blood pressure.

Kindness benefits the person giving and receiving it, so go on, do someone a small kindness and reap the rewards, I ended it with a mudpack and it did not cost a penny!

I had such a good day on Saturday at the

There were some amazing speakers and
I met up with a couple of people I trained with.
Being around people who you know and share a common interest with is so important to us as humans, it makes us feel motivated and helps us cope with things easier.

Today is world kindness day.

Kindness can be shared in many ways, it can be complimenting someone what they wear, picking up litter, listening to someone who has a problem, and also being kind to ourselves.

We need to realise that it is important for us to talk to people about how we feel, look after ourselves as well as others and also take time doing the things we love.

Today is National Stress Awareness Day.

Some people live with stress every day, this can result in withdrawing from their friends and curling up and staying at home, this is fine if you are a snail but it’s not good for us!

A small amount of stress can be helpful at times, it will give you a boost when you need help to get through things like an interview, or an exam but if stress continues for a long time it can affect our emotional and physical health. We can feel worried, tense, tired and unable to enjoy things like we normally do.

Hypnotherapy can help you deal with stress.
If we change the way we see things we can deal with them more effectively and feel more in control of situations that would normally cause stress.
