Is that our Children's Unit team?👀 No, it's the GWH stars of !📚

Thanks to the team for donning their favourite storybook character costumes to bring some cheer to the children and young people staying with us this week.

Over half of Swindon's most disadvantaged youngsters are not at the expected standard for reading and writing, so our teams are committed to supporting their patients' education and learning when they are spending time in hospital. 💙

It's , and we're shouting out the team on Teal ward!🌟

A member of our local community said: “To all the wonderful nursing team in Teal Ward who have been exceptional with their care and friendship for our loved one during their stay. We truly can't thank you enough and that comes from the bottom of our hearts, you really are the backbone of NHS.”

Well done team Teal, incredible work to care for so many patients and their friends and family.💙

To celebrate , staff in our Urgent Treatment Centre were joined by ModuleCo, who popped in to donate copies of their new book, 'Riley goes to hospital', to some of our youngest patients. 📚

The story is written to provide children with reassurance during what can be a scary time when visiting a hospital. It follows a girl, Riley, when she breaks a bone and all the healthcare workers she meets on her journey.

Thank you for the kind donation.👏

Meet Matt, one of our fantastic sexual health advisors who is using this to encourage young adults in Swindon to take up the offer of the HPV vaccine, and join our efforts to eliminate cervical cancer by 2040.💪💓

Our Sexual Health team, based in the town centre, are offering catch-up HPV vaccinations to anyone who may have missed out on them at school. You can also access it via your GP.

This vaccine is available to females (at birth) under 25 years old and males (at birth) under 19 years old.

The HPV vaccine supports men and women, as whilst most known for it's work to eliminate cervical cancer, HPV can also cause throat and a**l cancers in anyone.

Give the team a call on 01793 604038 to get booked in.

In March, the Trust is launching a new service to support women who have given birth and are experiencing high blood pressure. 💓🤱

Developed in partnership with Health Innovation West of England and Greener NHS, this new service enables eligible women to monitor their blood pressure at home after being discharged following birth.

This can reduce the need for frequent face-to-face appointments at the hospital or health centre, while empowering women to take an active role in monitoring their health during the postnatal period.

Women who meet the inclusion criteria will be offered this pathway by their doctor before leaving the maternity unit.

Kat Simpson, Director of Midwifery and Neonatal Services, said: “I’m delighted to see this service launching, which will support women to safely monitor their blood pressure in the comfort of their own homes. By reducing the need for travel to hospital appointments, this service also supports our commitment to delivering more sustainable, environmentally friendly care.”

If your baby had neonatal care in June, July, August 2025, you may be invited to take part in the Neonatal Care Experience Survey. If you are invited, you will get a letter with more information. Please take part to help shape NHS services for future parents 🤝

We’re delighted to be expanding our Neonatal Transitional Care Unit at Great Western Hospital.

Earlier this month, the unit broadened its criteria to now care for babies born from 34 weeks’ gestation, having previously cared for babies born at 35 weeks and above. These babies may need specialised care, additional feeding support or closer monitoring after birth.

This expansion means more babies can stay with their mothers while receiving the specialist care they need, rather than being cared for on a separate unit.

Steve and Becky recently welcomed their daughter, the first baby born at 34 weeks to be cared for under the new criteria, and praised the support they received.

Steve said: “Without the unit, we wouldn’t have been able to learn how to care for her nearly as well as we have, especially at night. It’s been invaluable to look after our own daughter with the team’s support, rather than learning everything on our own once we got home.”

This expansion would not be possible without the hard work and dedication of our perinatal team, who continue to go above and beyond for the families in their care. 💙👶
