It is no surprise if today we feel an accumulation of emotional and physical exhaustion from all that is happening in the world. The COVID pandemic and its enduring consequences for life is taking a tremendous toll. As if COVID is not enough, we have yet another horrific and senseless war in Ukraine causing loss of life and suffering and having a significant impact worldwide.
While those who can, actively do everything possible to physically support the Government and people of Ukraine, there are some things that we all can do daily:
Be present, aware and self-compassionate:
• take mindful and compassionate breaks when feeling overwhelmed;
• give the busy mind some rest by pausing and taking two or three deep breaths to become calm and grounded in the present moment;
• connect with the body to notice what sensations, feelings, emotions, and thoughts arise. Just notice without judgement or reaction, allow what arises to be as it is;
• connect with the authentic self and to be kind, give yourself what you need in that moment.
This pause from life on autopilot allows us to self-regulate and mindfully move forward with whatever CAN be done in the present moment.
Be present, aware, and compassionate to others:
• give attention and loving kindness to those around you;
• extend a helping hand to someone who is struggling;
• do whatever can be done to be kind.
Being mindful, compassionate, and kind in the present moment can bring calm to yourself and to all who are around you.
Join me in sending prayers and compassion with loving kindness to the Government and the people of Ukraine, wherever they may be in the world, and to all those who are suffering from the inhumane behaviour of an autocrat and bully.
May peace soon return to Ukraine. May we all be blessed with strength, courage, love, and compassion. 🙏
