Side effects of sports massage can differ from person to person. This will mainly be related to what you are getting treated for.
After a sports massage you may be slightly sore especially if you are new to this type of treatment, this will usually wear off after a couple of days. Depending on the depth of massage you may experience light bruising or redness of the skin, this will also wear off after a couple of days. You can help these symptoms with post treatment recommendations from your therapist such as hot/cold therapies or some light stretching.
You may also experience headaches or nausea due to increased blood flow and lying in unfamiliar positions. You can limit this by making sure you are hydrated both before and after your treatment. If at any time during your treatment you feel uncomfortable or want adjustments to your position just let your therapist know and this will be catered for.
There are many things that can happen after your treatment, so it is important to let you therapist know any concerns you have prior to treatment. Most of the time you will only experience the positive aspects of the treatment but it is always good to be prepared for other possibilities.
