🩹 Sports Taping & Strapping – Essential Support On and Off the Field

Sports taping and strapping is a foundational skill in injury management and prevention, offering rigid, targeted support to vulnerable joints and soft tissues during high-demand activity.

📜 A bit of history:

The use of taping in sport dates back to the early 20th century, first gaining popularity among athletic trainers in the U.S. Taping techniques evolved alongside competitive sport, becoming a staple in physiotherapy, sports therapy, and pitch-side care worldwide.

💡 What Is Sports Taping & Strapping?

It involves using rigid or semi-rigid tape to:
✔️ Restrict harmful ranges of motion
✔️ Support injured or unstable joints
✔️ Protect healing tissues during activity
✔️ Reduce pain through proprioceptive feedback
✔️ Assist in return-to-play decisions

🏉 Common applications include:

Ankle sprains
Knee ligament support (MCL/LCL)
Shoulder instability
Thumb and wrist injuries
Joint hypermobility
Postural corrections

🩺 How It Fits Into Clinical Practice:
Sports taping is an essential tool for:
🔹 Pitch-side and event therapy
🔹 Pre-training protection
🔹 Post-injury recovery and return-to-sport planning
🔹 Pairing with rehab and manual therapy for added stability

🎓 Want to master the technique?

Join our accredited Sports Taping & Strapping CPD course — designed for manual therapists, sports therapists, PTs, and rehab professionals.

📍 Learn face-to-face with expert tutors in a hands-on environment

🎽 Kinesiology Taping for Sports Performance and Rehab – More Than Just Tape!

Let's look at what and why?

Kinesiology Taping (or K-Taping) is a dynamic, elastic therapeutic tape designed to support movement, not restrict it. First developed in the 1970s by Japanese chiropractor Dr. Kenzo Kase, it was created as a way to continue treatment between sessions—offering physical support while encouraging natural healing.

💡 Why Use Kinesiology Tape in Clinical Practice?

✔️ Supports muscles and joints without limiting range of motion
✔️ Reduces pain and inflammation
✔️ Improves circulation and lymphatic drainage
✔️ Enhances proprioception and body awareness
✔️ Useful for both acute and chronic conditions
✔️ Can aid in posture correction, injury prevention, and sports performance

🏃‍♂️ In Sports & Rehab Settings:
K-Taping is widely used for:

Muscle activation or inhibition
Tendon and ligament support
Managing bruising or swelling
Stabilising joints post-injury
Improving neuromuscular control in rehab

🩺 How It Fits Into Clinical Practice:
Kinesiology Taping is a fantastic adjunct to:

🔹 Manual therapy
🔹 Rehab exercises
🔹 Dry needling or cupping
🔹 Sports massage and injury management
🔹 Return-to-play strategies
🎓 Learn how to apply K-Tape safely and effectively with our CPD-accredited Kinesiology Taping courses — suitable for therapists, trainers, and movement professionals.
