💫 IASTM: A Modern Take on an Ancient Technique

IASTM (Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilisation) has roots in the ancient East Asian practice of Gua Sha, where tools were used to stimulate circulation and relieve pain. Modern IASTM builds on that foundation with clinical precision, using specially designed instruments to treat soft tissue dysfunction based on fascial and neurophysiological principles.

✨ The theory?

IASTM creates controlled microtrauma that stimulates:
🔹 Fibroblast activity for tissue repair
🔹 Neuro-modulation to reduce pain
🔹 Improved fascial mobility for better movement quality

✨ Key Benefits:

✔️ Breaks down adhesions and scar tissue
✔️ Reduces chronic muscle tension and pain
✔️ Enhances range of motion and flexibility
✔️ Accelerates healing by boosting circulation
✔️ Protects the therapist’s hands and joints

✨ Clinical Use:

IASTM integrates easily into rehab sessions—assess the restriction, treat with the tool, then reinforce with movement, stretching, and strength work.

✨ Commonly used for:

Tendinopathies
Post-op scar management
Fascia-related pain
Sports injury rehab

💫 Looking to add this evidence-informed, hands-saving technique to your practice? Our accredited IASTM day course is available in both and and features scrapers along with the other tools.
