Watched Inside Out 2 last Saturday.
Working with peoples emotions everyday I was really keen to see it.
We all LOVED it! It does a fantastic job at illustrating how hard it is in your teens. It’s tackling some of the big emotions and feelings, that balldoze into teenagers without warning. Hello, Anxiety, Embarrassment, Ennui (Boredom) and Envy, welcome to the party!...
Chuck in a dose of hormones and friendship drama and it really captured what it is to be 13... Riley the main character is now a teenager.
Clever to physically see in the brain and illustrated in a fun way. How kids start to pull away to find themselves and their identity outside of the family unit and seek to find their place in their social circles/ sports teams. Riley is now so conscious of herself and wanting SO badly to fit in.
SO many lessons in friendship and what it means to be a good friend and seek out the authentic gems.
To balance old friendships and fit in with new ones. To recognise when mistakes are made and repair the rupture which creates growth in friendships at this age.
The big take home for everyone was the bitter sweet battle between Anxiety and Joy, both wanting whats best but with very different strategies. Most of us know Anxiety can very easily get in the driving seat and take over, pushing all other emotions aside. We see first hand how this impacts Riley and the panic attack scene is represented so well. How it feels, what it looks like, how to cope then rise up and not be beaten by it.
As Joy says, “Anxiety doesn’t get to choose who we are” although kindly trying to keep us safe, anxiety has to let us go... and always keep looking for joy.
The Sequel isn’t as fast paced but it hits hard and honestly i think it pitches perfectly what it is to be a human, the journey through teens and how we all feel all these emotions - its called being ALIVE. Every emotion exists within us and works in unison when in balance.
It’s a 10/10 from me... go see it, take your eye rolling teenagers it will certainly get them talking afterwards. We went to the brand new highly recommend it’s a lovely venue!
And currently family tkts for 4 only £20!
