How much do you put into reviews? I am one of these people who go and look at reviews for just about everything. I like to ensure that I’m not making a mistake on what I am buying. Recently, I bought a new air bubbler for my fish tank and for once, I thought I would have a look at the general overall star ratings, but I didn’t read the comments. This isn’t normally like me, I would normally read what people have to say and then make a decision. Not this time!! Was this a good idea? Um, in short, no, not in this case. I have now read the reviews, and as you expect, I got it wrong. The airer is too noisy for me!! But for others, this worked out,
I don’t normally ask my clients to write a review of our work together, it's a personal experience, and I don't feel comfortable asking clients to share this experience. For me, if they want to share their experience, then they can. This isn’t about me, but them.
The best way to ensure you get the right counsellor for you is to have a session or two with a new counsellor. This really ensures that you connect, and you can start to work out how you feel about therapy in that style. As a counsellor, I get used to potential clients coming for a session, then changing their minds. You know, we don’t mind potential clients coming for a session or two to work out how it feels. Also, this helps us too. Counsellors can also workout if we fit together, so it’s good for both of us. It can take a little time to find YOUR counsellor, but when you do, reviews or not, you know they are right for you. Take care.
