Hot🔥 Vs Cold🧊 Therapy
I've had a few clients come in these last few weeks and ask me about the difference between hot and cold treatments and when is best to use them so thought I would do a post to help clear the confusion up😄

Hot Therapy🔥
Using heat on an injured are helps to improve blood circulation and blood flow to a particular area therefore causing a form of pain relief to the area which can help to soothe the muscles and heal damaged tissue as well.

You can use the heat locally so in one area or regional so using it on the whole body this will depend on the areas you want the heath therapy to work on.
Heat therapy is best used on chronic issues as you don't want to use it on areas that are swollen or bruised as this will not help with the inflammation phase.
Examples:
- Ultrasound
- Heating Pads
- Hot bath

Cold Therapy🧊
Cold therapy is best used in the immediate stages of injury so between 48-72 hours after the injury as this is when the inflammation phase will occur and the area could appear bruised or swollen. So adding cold to the area can help to reduce the blood flow to the area therefore reduce the inflammation and swelling that causes the pain.

You want to use cold therapy several times a day if possible but for not longer than 20 minutes at a time. This can also be done locally with ice packs on certain areas or if you want to help the whole body then you can use ice baths to target the whole body.
Examples:
- Ice packs
- Freeze spray
- Ice baths

Want more information on treatment options or have any injuries enquires please get in contact with me and I will be more than happy to help☺️
