Long term precious friendships provide us with emotional support and a sense of belonging. The relationship strengthens over the decades and the picture below is of our annual school reunion.

We have seen each other grow, change, overcome challenges, celebrate successes. We have built up a huge level of trust which enables open and honest communication to support each other.

Sharing experiences with long term friends can alleviate anxiety. Old friends bring a sense of nostalgia to remind each other of who we were and how far we have come. When we meet conversation is effortless and is filled with happy memories and laughter, regardless of time or distance.

As we reach middle age and start approaching retirement, it's essential to reflect on not only our professional goals but also the personal responsibilities that can shift during this period.

For many of us, this is the stage where we might find ourselves looking after both grandchildren and ageing parents. These dual responsibilities can be incredibly rewarding, yet they can also create added stress as we try to manage our careers alongside family obligations.

On the professional front, many are finding themselves in positions where promotions to senior management roles become more likely. Itโ€™s an exciting opportunity, but it can also bring additional pressures as expectations rise.

Remember, itโ€™s perfectly normal to feel a mix of excitement and apprehension as we embark on this new chapter.

There are many milestones in life and this is just a few of the stages of life relevant to this post.

My Grandaughter graduated in 2024 and started a finance graduate qualification with a major UK company โ€“ and will be earning a salary!

All these milestones offer moments of reflection, not just on a personal level but also on the profound shifts in the aging process.

My husband and I had a wonderful time after marriage working and living in various parts of Africa for 8 years and during that time had 3 children.

In this day and age it is difficult to know if you might become a Grandparent first or experience the โ€œMidlife Muddleโ€; these are all milestones.

Midlife really is a time when you can start craving a deeper meaning in life and reflection. Perhaps you have changes in relationships, health, career, empty nest, care giving, scared of the future, or feel not good enough with no sense of purpose; or just wondering what the future holds.

However, some pass through this transiton with ease but others struggle to find solutions to their challenges mentally, physically or emotionally. Men and women often feel that the solutions are too huge to resolve and react in different ways. These help to give you space and switch off, allowing yourself to relax and improving your sleep.

One of the techniques I recommend to clients is to have a Golden Power Hour each day โŒ›

Ideally, this would be time you spend going outside to walk in nature ๐ŸŒฑ but can also be other self-care activities where the aim is to take time out for you.

This could be an hour in one go or split up across the day eg 4x 15 minutes.

If you are able to go outside the exposure to the natural light increases your serotonin levels - referred to as the "feel good" chemical to elevate mood and increase motivation, which can help to alleviate symptoms of anxiety and overwhelm.
