The big day is nearly here and for a lot of us it is a time of family, friends, food and relaxing with games, walks or festive films.

Children often enjoy the masses of presents, yet as adults it can be more difficult. There is usually someone that has everything, and someone who is hard to buy for. In these difficult financial times, it can be hard to buy gifts, so you can be laden with guilt but never underestimate the gift of your time.

As we age, we tend to value the gift of thought or time more. A relaxed home cooked meal of their favourite dish can mean more than a fancy restaurant 3 course meal. A morning in the local park with the grandkids means more than a DVD boxset.

During this time of year I like to reflect on what has happened this year, and what I would like to achieve next year.

This year has been one of connection. I have enjoyed going to new networking groups and being a part of thriving supportive communities. I have connected with a stronger sense of my own purpose in business, specialising in mid and later life coaching. This led to a rebrand and new website that I feel reflects me better.

For 2026 I am looking forward to helping more people embrace the opportunities that mid and later life can bring with my various programmes, whether it is group or 121. I am particularly looking forward to running a new programme I have devised for the new year (details coming soon!) that I plan to run annually only in the new year.

You regret eating so much junk food during the holidays, and you can’t wait to get away from your relatives, but you know that, as soon as you do, you will feel guilty about not being more tolerant of them. My identity helps me to connect with others, my sense of self, my ‘core’, the sense of who I am.

One of the techniques I recommend to clients is to have a Golden Power Hour each day ⌛

Ideally, this would be time you spend going outside to walk in nature 🌱 but can also be other self-care activities where the aim is to take time out for you.

This could be an hour in one go or split up across the day eg 4x 15 minutes.

If you are able to go outside the exposure to the natural light increases your serotonin levels - referred to as the "feel good" chemical to elevate mood and increase motivation, which can help to alleviate symptoms of anxiety and overwhelm.

The Power of Long Term Precious Friendships 😍

Long term precious friendships provide us with emotional support and a sense of belonging. The relationship strengthens over the decades and the picture below is of our annual school reunion.

We have seen each other grow, change, overcome challenges, celebrate successes. We have built up a huge level of trust which enables open and honest communication to support each other.

Sharing experiences with long term friends can alleviate anxiety. Old friends bring a sense of nostalgia to remind each other of who we were and how far we have come. When we meet conversation is effortless and is filled with happy memories and laughter, regardless of time or distance.
