Fungal Nail: Causes & Care Tips

What causes fungal nail?
Fungal nail infections develop when fungi enter the nail through tiny cracks or breaks. They thrive in warm, damp environments, such as:
• Wearing tight or non-breathable footwear
• Sweaty feet or damp socks
• Communal areas like gyms, pools, and changing rooms
• Poor circulation, nail trauma, or weakened immunity

Tips to help manage & prevent fungal nail:
✔ Keep feet clean and dry, especially between the toes
✔ Change socks daily and after exercise
✔ Wear breathable footwear and avoid tight shoes
✔ Use flip-flops in communal showers and pools
✔ Trim nails straight across and keep them short
✔ Avoid sharing nail clippers, shoes, or towels
✔ Seek professional foot care early—treatment works best when started sooner

If nails become thickened, discoloured, or painful, professional treatment can help restore nail health and comfort 👣💙

Athlete’s Foot (Tinea Pedis)

Athlete’s foot is a fungal skin infection caused by bacteria that thrives in warm, moist environments. It is commonly associated with sweaty feet, occlusive footwear, communal areas, and inadequate drying between the toes.

Prevention:
• Wash feet daily and dry thoroughly, especially between toes
• Change socks daily and wear breathable footwear
• Avoid walking barefoot in communal areas
• Do not share footwear or towels
• Treat early to prevent spread or recurrence

Maintaining good foot hygiene significantly reduces the risk of infection 👣

👣 Did you know a Foot Health Practitioner looks at more than just your feet?

When I visit for a foot care appointment, I’m not only checking for pain, calluses, or ingrown nails — I am also looking for signs of bigger health issues.

Your feet can tell a story about your circulation, nerve function, diabetes control, heart health, arthritis and even skin cancers such as melanomas.
Things like skin color, temperature, nail changes, or swelling can give important clues about what’s happening in the rest of your body.

So next time you have a foot check, remember — it’s not just about your feet; it’s about your overall health from the ground up! 💪

🌟 Are you waking up with heel pain?

You might be dealing with plantar fasciitis — one of the most common causes of heel pain. It happens when the band of tissue that supports your arch becomes inflamed, making those first steps in the morning ouch-worthy! 😣

👣 Simple ways to help:
✅ Stretch your calves and arches daily
✅ Wear supportive footwear (avoid flat, unsupportive shoes!)
✅ Ice your heel after activity
✅ Don’t ignore ongoing pain — early treatment can make all the difference!

👟 Heel pain slowing you down?
You’re not alone — plantar fasciitis affects millions of people, especially those on their feet all day or wearing unsupportive shoes.
