Are you a man in your 30s or 40s and thinking about a career change? Or are you a younger man thinking of a career in mental health? This is something to seriously consider.

Only about 20% of therapists and psychologists are male, and the same is true for teachers, meaning boys often grow up without male role models in the very spaces meant to support their development. 75% of men in prison are from fatherless homes.

At the same time, evidence clearly shows that a strong therapeutic alliance, the relationship, trust, and sense of being understood between client and therapist, is one of the most important factors in positive outcomes.

For many boys and young men, having the option to build that alliance with a male therapist matters. Right now, that option is limited.

This isn’t about being better than anyone else. It’s about representation, relatability, and role modeling healthy masculinity in spaces where vulnerability and growth happen.

If you’ve lived some life, done your own work, and want a career that’s meaningful and impactful, the therapy world needs you. Especially our boys.

As Christmas approaches, here at Mind2Man Counselling Services, we would like to express our sincere thanks and deep respect to the men who came forward this year and engaged in male-centred therapy with us.

This year, we were honoured to work with men from demanding and high-pressure roles, including:

• Soldiers
• Farmers
• Police officers
• Construction workers
• HGV drivers
• Other frontline and essential workers

Each of these men chose to work alongside our qualified male-centred therapist, taking time to focus on their mental health, well-being, and personal growth, often while continuing to support others around them.

We say this humbly, but their courage continues to show that men do want to talk when the right space is available.

Stepping forward takes courage. From all of us at Mind2Man, we wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas and a peaceful New Year. 🎄💙

If you are a man considering male-centred therapy, you are welcome to join our waiting list. All our therapists are trained and verified by the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) and listed with Psychology Today, ensuring professional, safe, and confidential support when you’re ready.

Creating the next generation of angry men?

Research by Civitas found that 41% of sixth-form students reported being told in school lessons that boys are a problem for society (Committees.parliament.uk, 2024). (Only 20% of teachers are male)

When boys are told “their masculinity is a problem”. The harm results from carrying a responsibility that was never theirs to bear.

They are asked to carry guilt for something they did not do. A serious introjected value is conveyed with little compassion or consideration for boys’ mental health.

The gender empathy gap, driven by unconscious bias, appears to be influencing the curriculum and the media, despite reports released by Mankind Initiative showing survey evidence that increasing numbers of boys are experiencing domestic abuse and controlling behaviours, more than girls (Youth Endowment Foundation, 2024).

If males' masculinity (partly biological) is being blamed in the education sector, why would they trust the mental health industry, which has also been found to be prone to the gender empathy gap. Let's help the male su***de emergency by not adding to the problem.

If your son has been a victim of this type of psychological abuse be assured, masculinity will not be blamed, but embraced in male-centred therapy.

The Impact of False Allegations

False allegations can cause severe emotional and psychological harm.

Around 9% of su***des are linked to the trauma caused by false accusations, showing how deeply this can affect a person’s mental health.

People facing false allegations often experience intense anxiety, depression, fear, isolation, and loss of stability.

How Therapy Helps

Therapy offers a safe space to process the shock and emotional pain.

It can support healing by reducing anxiety, rebuilding confidence, and restoring a sense of control and hope.

A Call for Compassion

False allegations can destroy lives.

Showing understanding, support, and empathy can make a life-saving difference.

Male su***de: most men before they end their lives, seek therapy in their final moments.

May be men don't need to open up more, maybe therapy needs to open the doors wider.

There is no victim blaming in male-centred therapy.

At Mind2Man Counselling Services, we often hear some men say that “yoga feels feminine.”

But here’s the truth: yoga was founded and developed by men. One of the earliest known contributors to the yoga tradition was Patanjali, a man whose work shaped the foundations of yoga as we know it today. For centuries, most early practitioners were also men.

Modern psychology and neuroscience now confirm what ancient practitioners understood:

🧠 Yoga + Therapy helps build stronger, more resilient men.
Both support neuroplasticity—the brain’s ability to rewire itself. This helps men break old patterns, manage stress, and form healthier emotional responses.

🫁 Yoga activates the parasympathetic nervous system, calming the “fight-or-flight” response that so many men live in daily.

💪 And here’s something many men don’t know:

Testosterone naturally amplifies vasopressin, a hormone linked with protection, bonding, and purposeful action.
But if a man is constantly in fight-or-flight mode, that system never gets a healthy outlet. The protective drive has nowhere to go, leaving him feeling tense, reactive, or emotionally stuck.

Yoga and therapy together help release that pressure, ground the body, and give men the strength, clarity, and calm they were built for.

Healthy men are regulated men.
Healthy Men take care of their mind and nervous system.
Healthy men do yoga.

In men, testosterone amplifies vasopressin signaling, enhancing the “protective hormone” effects such as vigilance, threat sensitivity, and defensive drives. While this helps with protective behaviours, dysregulated vasopressin can also increase stress, anxiety, irritability, and vulnerability to depression.

Counselling helps with:

Regulate stress and anxiety

Build purposeful goals

Channel protective drives into positive, adaptive behaviours

Reduce irritability and social withdrawal

Turn biological impulses into constructive actions rather than harmful patterns

🧠 Why Testosterone Matters in Men’s Mental Health 🧠

Many people think hormones are “just about sex,” but in reality, testosterone profoundly affects the male brain—and how men think, feel, and cope.

Here’s what you need to know:

1️⃣ Impulsivity & Reward Sensitivity
Testosterone amplifies the brain’s reward circuits, making men more sensitive to stimulation, novelty, and immediate rewards. That’s why behaviors like gaming, p**n, thrill-seeking, or even risk-taking can feel almost automatic.

2️⃣ Emotional Regulation & Frontal Control
The prefrontal cortex—the part of the brain that plans, inhibits impulses, and weighs consequences—can be influenced by testosterone, especially under stress. This may make it harder to pause, think, or manage emotions, particularly for men with ADHD or high stress.

3️⃣ Dominance, Status, and Motivation
Testosterone also drives status-seeking and competitiveness, which can be positive but sometimes lead to conflict, risk, or avoidance when goals feel overwhelming.

💡 Why this matters in therapy:

Men often struggle with shame or frustration when their brain drives impulsivity or avoidance.

Recognising the biological underpinnings of behavior helps therapists avoid blaming or pathologising men for partially hormone-driven behaviors.

With this awareness, therapy can focus on skill-building, self-regulation, and healthier coping strategies, rather than only telling men to “try harder” or “just control themselves.”

In short: Understanding testosterone isn’t about excuses, it’s about insight, empathy, and effective therapy.

More men than women (ONS, 2025) reported being abused by their partner in the last 12 months. This reality is often overlooked, and many men feel unable to speak up or seek help.

At Mind2Man Counselling Services, we recognise this trend and provide a compassionate, confidential, and judgment-free counselling service specifically for men.

If you or someone you know is struggling, you don’t have to face it alone — support is here.

📩 Send us a message to learn more or book a session.
💙 You deserve to be heard.

New Office for National Statistics domestic abuse statistic show 1.5m men were a victim of domestic abuse in 24/25 - including 1.2m million from a current or ex partner. Men make up two in five of all victims. Far too many men and women.

https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/crimeandjustice/bulletins/domesticabuseinenglandandwalesoverview/latest

The Government has pledged to halve the figures for men as well as women.

Interesting to see that more men than women said they were a victim of partner abuse from a current partner.
