August is tough for families facing school anxiety or EBSNA. There are so many questions and fears: What do I do on the first day of term if my child hasn’t been attending school and remains in burnout? What should the school be doing? What should the Local Authority be doing? Should I approach the Inclusion service? Who can help? How do I explain this to friends and family?

Family Voice Coordinators Anna Dawson and Lucy Young are keen to gather advice and insights that could help from those who have direct experience in order to put together some quick and easy to access help. Please send us your thoughts, peer support groups and links to key information.

Please reply to this post or email your input to Anna epsomewell@familyvoicesurrey.org or Lucy lucy.y@familyvoicesurrey.org

All input will be collated into a single document that will be shared

In the meantime, here are a few resources that may be of help:

Proof that academic learning could wait until children are at least 7 years old & would possibly be more effective. This is my personal opinion but it seems to work for scandinavian schools 🤔 Another argument for more play & sensory input like music to be enjoyed by children 🎵 I love the input music has in my sessions 🎶

Emotion develops before logic.

We all have spells when imposter syndrome drags you down & you wonder if you're really helping people in the way they need you to. I constantly question 'am I doing a good enough job?'

Well yesterday, as school drew to an end for another year ready for the Summer break, I was overwhelmed with the love that came from my families, children & work friends.

I can't thank everyone enough, this girl has been thoroughly spoilt & boy do they know me....there was a theme....sunflowers & Tinkerbell, along with notebooks & pens, afternoon teas, chocolates, candles, flowers, possibly some alcohol & oh so much more 💕

Perhaps the voice that whispers in my ear needs to be quiet now, I feel the love & that tells me I must be doing something right 🥰

What is this?! Reception aged children shouldn't be expected to sit still, they're 4 & 5 years old! We should be looking at the successful Scandinavian schools & taking some notice. Play is how a child learns & that means movement!

Everything I've achieved has been as an adult once my boys were in secondary school. I love, love, love learning but the difference is it's chosen learning, things I want to know more about. Yes, they tend to be related to my work but that's also because I'm passionate about what I do 🤓

I've watched this 4 times, gradually picking it up 😊
