The jaw is never just the jaw.

It’s tied to your neck, shoulders, hips, breath, and nervous system ~ so when you look at the body as a whole, everything begins to make sense. Clinically, jaw tension often links to cervical issues, posture, breathing patterns, and even pelvic stability. The body adapts as a system, not in isolation.

Research backs this up: Chaitow (2009) found TMJ myofascial release improved hip range of motion, and that jaw clenching reduced hip mobility. A reminder: what shows up in the jaw is often part of a larger story. Treat the whole body, not just the symptom.

TMJ Dysfunction and Jaw Clenching 😬⚠️

Over the past two weeks, I've been noticing myself jaw clenching a lot, especially at night. It’s wild how this clenching can lead to jaw pain, tension headaches, migraines, and even neck aches or tinnitus. It's something we all do without realizing it, and believe me - the symptoms can be really frustrating.

As part of my advanced clinical training, I work with clients suffering from TMJ Dysfunction, and for many, it's truly been life-changing! I’ve had my own struggles with it too. Recently, I let it slide for a bit, and man, did I have a serious trigger point on my right jaw. Trust me, I know the discomfort you might be feeling when you come to see me, I'm human just like you.

Nothing beats that relief when the tension finally releases. I even noticed my ear cleared up, I hadn’t realised I was also dealing with a whirring sound until it was gone.
