Happy World Book Day.

There’s something quietly powerful about opening a book. It gives us space to pause, to escape, and sometimes to better understand ourselves. For many, reading is more than a hobby. It is a way to support mental wellbeing.

Whether it’s a self-help book that offers a fresh perspective, a gripping crime drama that keeps you guessing, an inspiring biography, or a romance you can completely lose yourself in, books allow us to step outside the everyday for a while.

How do you prefer to read yours? Some say nothing compares to the feel of a real book in their hands. Others love the convenience of a screen reader, with a whole library at their fingertips. And for many, audiobooks make stories accessible on a walk, commute or while tackling the to do list.

What are you reading right now? Do you have a favourite or a recommendation to share? We would love to hear. Please pop a comment below ⬇️

What a fantastic day at the Taunton Half Marathon! We wanted to share a few photos with you as well.

Pictured are our fantastic TCS London Marathon runners Jess and Robin, who are taking part to raise funds for our charity. Robin is pictured with his sister Mollie, who ran alongside him.

The atmosphere was brilliant from start to finish, and we had such great fun being part of it all. We were proud to have our counsellors volunteering at Aid and Water Station 1 (pictured), handing out water, cheering loudly and giving plenty of encouragement to the amazing runners powering through. It was lovely to share the water station with Dodson dson and to soak up the community spirit together.

At the finish line, we were delighted to share a stall with Mind , chatting to people about the support available across Somerset and connecting with so many friendly faces.

Thank you to Taunton Half Marathon and Active South West for bringing this brilliant event back to the town and for allowing us to be involved.

We would absolutely love to be part of it again next year.

Good luck to everyone taking part in the Taunton Half Marathon today. We are so proud to have some of our counsellors out volunteering too.

Why not give them a ‘hi’ or a ‘wave’ as you approach them at Aid and Water Station 1? They will be ready with water, encouragement and plenty of cheers.

You will also find us at the finish line, sharing a stall with Mind . Please pop along and say hello, and find out more about what we and Mind do to support anyone who needs help with their mental health in Somerset.

This Sunday, some of our counsellors will be volunteering and swapping their therapy rooms for trainers and high-vis vests to help out at the Taunton Half Marathon. Thanks so much!

You will find us at Aid and Water Station 1, ready with cups of water, words of encouragement and the biggest cheers we can muster. Every stride tells a story, and we are honoured to support each runner as they take on theirs.

We are also proud to be sharing a stall at the finish line with Mind . A huge thank you to them for collaborating with us to shine a light on mental health services across Somerset.

Thank you to Taunton Half Marathon on and Active South West for allowing us to be part of this incredible community event and to raise awareness of the support available right here in Somerset.

To every runner lacing up on Sunday, we will be there clapping, smiling and championing you all the way to the finish line.

Greater Freedom

Counselling helps you explore the way you think and act; to see how you may be repeating unhelpful patterns of behaviour or thinking. It can also help you explore the way you deal with relationships and conflict.

You can bring thoughts and feelings, which you may not feel able to share with friends or family. You are free to talk safely, without fear of rejection, criticism or blame. Your counsellor will not tell you what to do but will help you to make your own choices and to make changes in your life that offer greater freedom in thought and action.

SCC counsellors come from a range of different trainings and incorporate a variety of counselling models including psychodynamic, person-centred, integrative and humanistic.

To give counselling the best chance of working the sessions need to be weekly. The counselling session lasts 50 minutes. Counselling can be time limited 6 – 12 sessions, or over a longer period of time depending on requirement, this will be discussed more fully at your initial consultation.
